Depressing isn't it :-(
Not many live music venues are prospering in the current climate.
Seems like smoking ban and cheap supermarket booze is killing them off
Best wishes to all bands and venues here

I hate to say it, but............

I TOLD YOU!

I was telling you last year. Drop your prices, give the pubs chance to get through the recession and you'll have venues to play when the good times return

@ dalek ...I do it for a living mate so I charge what I need to to pay the bills...am sure if your boss asked you to drop your wages until times were better you would have a grumble at it, especially if you have mortgage, kids bills etc etc. Maybe you're one of the lucky few who can live off mummy & daddybut I have to work..
no debate ...just a fact

oh god here we go. Do you support venues? do you put plenty of money behind the bar? do you take lots of friends there to support the venues? At the end of the day, you could have a band on for free but if no one goes in it's bloody irrelevant. By the way..... most of us so called money grabbers are doing our bit for the Pheasant Pluckers on Friday (as we did for charity and the Banner on 28th December and the Pheasant Pluckers before) without any fee whatsoever. There is a distinct lack of support in these occassions from people such as yourself, no doubt you won't be supporting this event either.

I too do charity events throghout the year and have done for any years..and where possible I will go and support a venue if I am not playing

once again, he comes on, spouts off then disappears when he can't handle a resonable question. I challenge him to prove his support of struggling venues

Its a very sad thing when a pub closes - especially when its your local and has been for 35 YEARS!!!
To Mr Dalek, it has nothing to do with music and bands as its not been a regular band venue, he's dabbled at it (don't ask Trig LOL) but that's about it.
I'm still awaiting comfirmation of actual closure - i'm off down there tonight to watch the match - i will post back on my return from there (or the Hare & Hounds)!!!

@Willow. You're quite correct. The price of bands/live music is a very small factor nowadays. The fixed overhead costs of running a pub are quite horrendous compared to what they used to be, especially the high rents charged by the property companies and the ever increasing business rates.

Well .... went in last night - open as usual - although no sign of landlord all night - asked barmaid who knew nothing of any closure (but then she wouldn't would she! - always the last to know an' all that)
If I find anything more out before Monday I'll let you know ...
