We've not had one of these for a while....

It's a Sunday night, it's been a hectic weekend. NWB Jam night on Friday. Whatever! gig on Saturday and a blast to Blackpool to see the girlfriend today. Just got back, I'm chilling out, listening to some tunes and posting bollocks on NWB.

I am currently listening to The Best Of The Guess Who and I've got my eye on Creedence Clearwater Revival's Scandinavian Collection when I get up and top up my Jack Daniels.

Come on....what you got on?

You can't beat clearing the loft for digging out the classics. Did you try the "soundtrack to my life" idea? Another good excuse to listen to those records you haven't listened to for years!

Got WMP playing a 'blues' selectiom. At the mo. it's Ringo singing 'Honey Don't' from the concert for George album. I tell a lie now it's Mary Wells' 'I Don't Want To Take a Chance'. So that's rock and roll and soul music both classed as 'blues'.....

if the album was a "knock off Nigel" one in the first place is it still illegal to transfer to mp3?

Moot point but prob illegal. All mine are from original cassettes/vinyls and still questionable. That said I purchased a usb turntable and cassette player specially to transfer, so does that make the manufacturers guilty of 'aiding and abetting' copyright theft?
This argument is as old as the hills,Blank Audio/ Video tapes /CD and dvd disks cannot all be to record our kids parties/first words, holidays etc. Can they ?

strange how some of the old systems are still considered better quality than the new stuff. I recorded a couple of albums in the late 80s and the engineer used Betamax video tape to record on. He insisted it was better than any 16 track audio tape!

Avatar

# Posted by Keef - 17/01/2010, 23:47 (GMT)

BBC stil use Betamax, after all these years. I had a VHS Ferguson Video Star for ages (Toploader with the Toggle keys), way better than even the newer Sony/JVC offerings.

Come and talk to me Trig , could do with a sort out/clear out mate.

Avatar

# Posted by Bass Bloke - 17/01/2010, 23:49 (GMT)

Betamax was an excellent format , god knows why it died ehh ? i remember my 16 track alesis was a standard Vhs tape ,then it would cost earth for a decent 2 track spool , crazy ehh ?
still actually got my Digital tape cassette recorder ,it was better than my Dat which cost me 4 times as much to

@ Keef
Pictures at an Exibition, awesome choice. Would love to do an ELP tribute band. God knows how many times I have seen them. Last time at Apollo in Manch it was liek a geriatrics convention going in., and the stench of pot.....anyway back on track.
Glass of Four Roses, James Taylor Quartet, Whole Lotta Live to be followed by Jess Roden on vinyl.

# Posted by Bass Bloke - 17/01/2010, 23:59 (GMT)

Ahh ELP, i had the pleasure of seeing them in the very same stadium in Ontario where Fanfare for the Common man was recorded,(remember the snow ) with guests Kc and the sunshine band ,and a very good clown called Leo Sayer

Avatar

# Posted by Keef - 18/01/2010, 00:04 (GMT)

@FRB, Always fancied an ELP trib myself. If only Jimi had not died when he did we might have seen an HELP band on the road. Now that would have been something. I really got into the whole classical/rock thing back then, bought every thing I could find from Sky at one point as well as other bands such as Camel. Those where the days eh?

Bunch of guys who only did 1 album that i know of. Michael Shrieve, Bayette(Todd Cochran) Pat Thrall Doni Harvey. Looks like that one is on the list for tonight.

i like Oasis, there i said it, ive liked em since they were on the word in 1994, a good band is a good band is a good band

but today i was listening to Trivium, does that now make me a "new wave of american heavy metal fan",WTF no, its just another cd i like too, and new years eve me and my good lady got home and danced around the room to 1980s cheese pop(my suggestion) then watched Jools Holland

Quality, Lady Ga Ga before she sold her soul and decided to sing the songs that she was told to, wearing the clothes she was told to. Same old sad, sad story of the record labels ruining natural talent. Reminds me of the Ting Tings. Their original material before they got signed was amazing. The public will always remember them for "THATS NOT MY NAME, THATS NOT MY NAME, THATS NOT MY NAME".

Tonight I have mostly been listening to a little known band from Cambridge called The Broken Family Band who sadly decided to go their seperate ways in 2009 after years of producing some of the UKs finest alt-indie americana.

Thank you boys if you're reading this. Your lyrics are some of the most profound and thought provoking I have ever heard.

Tonight's drink of choice was John Smiths bitter. Well....I have just had a curry and I didn't have any Cobra.
