Underrated albums

Inspired by a random tune on my drive home

Reef - Getaway

Reef were an English rock band from Glastonbury. The band members included Gary Stringer on vocals, Kenwyn House on guitar, Jack Bessant on bass and Dominic Greensmith on drums. "Place Your Hands" (taken from the album "Glow") released on 21 October 1996, was Reef’s most successful single to date, reaching number 6 in the UK singles chart. The song explains the grief that Stringer felt following the death of his grandfather, and easing the pain of death.

Reef's fourth album and most commercial work yet, Getaway (Sony) was released in 2000, and was produced by Al Clay, who has also produced for the Pixies and Stereophonics. "Set The Record Straight" was the highlight of the album.

Come on then, let's have your underrated albums. One suggestion each. Any genre. No blogjacking. No wind ups. Let's see if we can broaden some musical horizons.

Prince - Emancipation

he was no longer in his 80's heyday... this was 1996 and most people didn't think Prince was any good any more... he was more notable for changing his name to a squiggly symbol than for his music... this 3 CD album was seen as sprawling & self-indugent... which it is, but I absolutely love it... his peak of popularity might have passed by this time, but once a genius, always a genius (IMO)

not my fave album by any artist, ever, but don't know anyone else who likes this

Talking of Irish bands , does anyone remember a band called Energy Orchard? Saw them a couple of times in 1990/91 , great track called 'Sailortown'.The album was called 'Energy Orchard' and lead vocalist was Bap Kennedy brother of Brian Kennedy.

'New Boots and Panties' underrated???

Electric Boys - Funkometal Carpet Ride

Right about the time my favourite genre (Funk Rock/Metal) got started it was swept away by the Seattle grunge explosion. It's a real pity because some of the funky rock bands out there were really good.

Despite it's cheesy name, Funkometal Carpet Ride has some excellent tunes on it. Very few people I speak to have even heard of the Electric Boys.

Reef were a great band, shame they're only remembered for one tune. Consideration was an all-time favourite.

I don't you can say the White Lies album is underrated - one of the best selling albums of last year!

I'm going to be "acquiring" lots of this stuff later :o)

The problem with 3 sides is that it is overshadowed by pornograffiti. I don't think it compares that well mate.

good point Mick, Pornograffiti was indeed a hard act to follow but I still feel III sides is very underrated

I think the reason (and Extreme were my favourite band back then) I didn't bond with 3 sides was I couldn't decide where they were going with it. And indeed the next album happened. Ironically enough I am STILL waiing for the punch line. lol
