Anything by Wakeman..went to see him at our local theatre..just him and a guitar player..mussta been 50 tops in the audience !..he came out, sat on a stool with a bottle of Stella, told some amazing stories about his life and career and played some amazing keyboard including six wives, journey to the centre of the earth, et al. Absoluteley mind blowing stuff..one of the best gigs I have EVER been to..made you feel like you were a guest in his front room..brilliant!

Kerrrrect.

The book is an absolute scream though. I would imagine most of the anecdotes he has used over the years are in it.

Rush 2112.......?

Ok.. It's not technically a concept album as there are a few unrelated songs on it but the whole 2112 story is considered a concept!

From Wikipedia:

In the year 2062, a galaxy-wide war results in the union of all planets under the rule of the Red Star of the Solar Federation. By 2112, the world is controlled by the "Priests of the Temples of Syrinx", who determine the content of all reading matter, songs, pictures - every facet of life.

In the year 2062, a galaxy-wide war results in the union of all planets under the rule of the Red Star of the Solar Federation. By 2112, the world is controlled by the "Priests of the Temples of Syrinx", who determine the content of all reading matter, songs, pictures - every facet of life.

A man discovers a guitar and learns to play different music. When he goes to present this to the priests of the Temples, they destroy the guitar. He goes into hiding and dreams of a world before the Solar Federation. Upon awakening he becomes distraught and commits suicide. As he dies, another planetary battle begins resulting in the ambiguous ending "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation: We have assumed control."

Genesis - The Lamb lies down on Broadway. 1974

No real meaning to it whatsoever! Plot based on some chap called Rael..and a Lamb. But Production, lyrics, musical performances, concepts and imagination on another planet. 'Back in NYC' 'Fly on a windshield' it all just so unique...

Of course: Rush -
2112 Side 1
Hemisphere's Side 1

@ Rick Nice one mate.

Patrick Moraz - The Story of I. Bought this just after he Joined Yes, played it over and over , then lost it during one of many house moves. Would love to find a copy again.
Wakemans - Criminal Record

How far back do we go with this? Tho Deff not a concept album until many years later, Holst-Planet Suite and Vivaldi's Four Seasons may well be amongst the early Concept works.

several marillion albums...
several queensryche albums...
several rush albums...

oh and a metallica album... err... St.Anger.. which told the tale of how a metal band can really abuse its fan base and churn an extremely poor album.. i think they pulled it off personally. ;-)

don't know if it qualifies as a concept album, but if you listen to Tunnel Of Love by Springsteen and equate it with what was going on in his life ... it's brilliant in its autobiographical honesty.
