stripping gold hardware / new scratch plates etc

Whats the best way to strip the gold finish off a bridge and tailpiece?
I don’t like the gold finish from my sheraton and it doesn’t go with my chrome pick ups ive put on - im all willing to buy new….but im struggling to find ones that fit perfectly.

I put the chrome bridge and tail piece from my sg onto my sheraton. The fit wasn’t perfect, but it did fit and I have gigged with it a lot since. But ive had problems playing with it ever since I put it on - and the same with my sg, and I want both chrome.

So - I want to strip the gold off the original sheraton bridge / tail piece.
Any ideas? ive heard oven cleaner….even urine…! Id rather try oven cleaner…

As I said, im willing to buy but the sheraton seems a bitch to find fitting bridges for.

ALSO - does anyone know a good person to contact who can make me a custom scratch plate?
i want a couple of them made up....

the plating is generally that thin that a decent abrasive polish like T-cut or Autoglym paint renovator will have it off pretty quick.......

If you don't see what you want, email them. They are a good bunch. I've dealt with them a number of times.

wd music seems great, litteraly 2 mins after posting this i found it online, after looking for a few days. sods law. apparently they have a bridge that'll fit a sheraton. tail pieces

not sure how good it'll be, but i'll go for it - although i'll try t-cut first!

I had an Epi LP Custom completely refitted with parts from WD, including the Kent Armstrong humbuckers. All seemed very good quality indeed. Gigged it for 3 years with no sign of the nickel wearing off.

A word of warning Mr Mockingbird. If you scrape the gold anodysing off, you will not be left with a chrome finish. You will be left with at best bare steel and at worst a base white metal. If you are lucky and it is steel, it will rust. If it is not, it will quickly become a mottled white. (I may be a drummer, but I did a 5 year engineering apprenticeship!)
If they are not too expensive, I would seriously advise you to buy new ones and maybe try to recoup some of the pennies by selling the originals on E-bay. Or just keep 'em as spares.

i'll try t-cut first and buy them if they're crap. i shouldnt have said chrome, i meant more of a nickel finish.

if they turn out crap i'll throw them. anything but gold, the gold finish doesnt last long on guitars unless you treat it like your baby.

Fairplay. Do you need any backdrops or banners (unashamed self advertising)?

i t-cut them and they're fine! they come out pretty shiny. when they start to go off, i'll buy new.

banners you say? we do actually! yeah we need a big banner to put up behind us when we're gigging. you got any examples of your work?
