All in the name of research to make it a better and bigger jam for you!!!
Im tryin to find out what you all want here to make it better for you so throw me a frickin bone...!!! Much love The D Man x
Here you are Dean, as per comment The idea of putting on a jam is that you let others play, it is not about YOU. Play 2 songs, not 30-50 minutes, and allow people to get up and have a go, good, bad or indifferent. Do be too well rehearsed in the songs you play to start the night off, it will put people off, the is one "jam" night on a Monday and they are so well rehearsed, they come over as clear smart arsed B/stds, I could thump them, not for their talent, but because they are missing the point of a jam. Another pet hate, OK its alright to have a go and play songs you know, but I think some of the people who get up with their band and play the songs they played on the previous night or weekend are sado's, with small, can I say dicks on here? Most people don't jam, they showcase their band, the idea of a jam is that you play with people you don't know, and if you don't know the song too well have a go. Like you say, leave you ego at the door. There you go Dean, there's a comment, did I also say, don't play all night and not too loud. I might get up there tonight, I'll leave the band at home.
all sounds a bit too rule book to me all that. I thought the point of going to a jam was to do whatever you wanted. Guitarists who want to fret wank are often visitors to jams as they can't do it on a restricted gig. I used to run a jam night a long time ago and I remember the owner of the venue telling me I was too good and other people were put off so could i play not so good in future! eh? I can only play how I play, I felt like I should apologise for being a reasonably good musician. My advice is play whatever you want and stuff everyone else. You are there to play for nothing so make the most of it. If other players feel intimidated then thats their problem not yours.Oh and don't take your best guitar along unless you know there is only you going to play it
