Hi Kev, i am pretty sure we looked at one of these for the "between set music" and one of the biggsest drawbacks is you can't create playlists, so you need to select each track as you need it.
Also I don't think it is footswich controllable. May not be the same model, but certainly designed for a mobile DJ like this one.
We did find one SD player that is designed to be installed in bar/club etc that uses a remote control and DOES have programmed playlists.
Will try and dig out the details.

no moving parts on these machines Willow...absolutely shockproof and no discs to scratch and no mucky lasers to clean as with Cds. I use MiniDisc at the mo but they are gettin a bit outdated and the sound quality is not as good as with CD or flashcard. When you record Mp3 onto Minidisc the sound degrades. Also..if the player packs up or develops a fault they are costing an arm and a leg to repair..Im definately gonna go down the flashcard route and use my Mini Disc player as backup.

We're chancing it on CD at the moment when we go out. CD players are that cheap we're going to just have a couple and use one as backup, plus have a few copies of the backing tracks with us at any one time.

We've had no luck with DAT or MiniDisc whatsoever. Once finances improve I think a flash card solution would be best, but they seem expensive for what they are. Another option we're considering is possibly using a laptop, but that's a last case scenario as the last thing you need at a gig is Windows blue screen of death!

We don't really need a footswitch in our band, we've done the old trick of leaving a huge gap after songs so we've got time to pause it and change tracks, plus a lot of songs start with drum sounds and what not.

cheers for the info Kev ... do you know if you can get SD (or any card) players that aren't "disco decks" style?? Just a simple player that's not a laptop??
Willow
p.s. the thing i like about the minidisc is you can auto pause after each track

I think they do portable type ones Willow E-Bay is a good place to browse, just put SD PLAYER or summat similar in the search box and see what comes up. I wanted a rack mounted system so this looks ideal for me. Ive since found out it does do continuous play so you can buld a set list in it. No remote control though so I may look for a techie to build a footswitch control into it...shoudnt be too difficut..maybe a 6mm jack wired to the pause button..thats how I converted my Mini Disc player from the headphone jack..POP! goes the warranty though..lol
