Two bands needed

Fri 16 and Sat 17 July 2010

Hi everyone

I have been asked to try and secure the services of two bands for a festival in South Manchester this summer. The festival was first held last year and was very.very sucessful and is aiming to be even bigger this year. With a turnout of 1,000 people plus over two days in a leafy suburb of South Manchester, it was very popular and very enjoyable.

I need one band for Fri 16 July and one band for Sat 17 July.

Fridays band must be jazz/blues or something quirky and Saturdays band must be a mutli -genre party band playing rock, punk, indie and modern music to please a diverse audience. Both bands MUST have their own equipment (PA and lights) and be capable of playing outdoors. A stage and cover will be provided, as will power.

The budget is tight but the event is well attended and I can say from personal experience that playing their last year was very rewarding.

If you would like to be considered, please drop me a PM with prices. I have to report back to the committee on Monday 8 March.

Many thanks
ST

Edit to say: Sorry, they are not considering originals bands at this moment in time. Please don't shoot the messenger.

Mr NWB - Please can you pin this post for me for a short while? Many thanks.

One thing I've never got - and this DEFINATELY isn't a dig - is why when these events are advertised for performers, the budget is tight but the attendance is good. Surely attendance = revenue therefore revenue = looser budget?

T'was just a thought. Please don't take it as a 'tight' swipe, just wondered what other circumstances can affect this!

Good point well made Viva.

It's a fund raiser supported by the local community for a local club. There is budget for entertainment, but they'd rather stick to a budget, meaning more money for the coffers.

That said, last year we got free entry for immediate family plus beer vouchers so all things considered it was fair pay for a decent nights work.

Hope this helps.

Well we certainly do quirky blues/jazz but our bassist is expecting a child around that time. A shame really, that sounds right up our street.

Thank you Steve for your enthusiasm. No-one is playing to 1000 people. That's the number of visitors over the 2 days the festival took place last year. Numbers for the evening sessions were in the low hundreds. Someone is getting a good deal out of it - the club - it's a fundraiser - deal with it. No one is forcing you to play and if you notice, I asked for bands to name their price. And actually YES, the brewery is giving them a deal on beer. In fact - SEVERAL breweries.

So Mr Negativity, get out of my blog and take your negative thoughts with you.

(And you wonder where The Dalek gets his ammunition from eh!)

Further to that, it's a real shame because The Fix would be ideal for the Sat night which is the slot Whatever played last year. The budget is tight but it's more than most pub/club venues pay at the moment plus incentives on the night.

ST sorry to butt in but why the secrecy? "A leafy suburb of South Mcr"?? Can you not just name the bloody thing, whats the problem??

Also whats the point in bands naming their prices when you've aleady said the budgets tight...chances are any decent self respecting band probably wouldn't come within the budget anyway so why pussy foot around and just get to the point!

1. Whats the event called?
2. Where exactly is it held?
3. What are they paying the bands?

Simple!!

The details are irrelevant and the reason they haven't been divulged is at the organisers request to stop people from contacting them direct.

With regards to budget, whats the problem with letting bands name their price? It hasn't stopped a number of people sending PMs. Those bands that want to play will price themselves accordingly. Maybe some come in over budget, but are worth the punt. I'm inviting people to "tender" if you like (in the simplest sense). That way I have more options to present to the committee.

If you're not interested....move along. Simple?

Jeez...all very MI5 like.

Do the festival-goers get to know what/where it is or do they have to guess as well?

And I think he's a Blackpool lad too. The strange twinning of Whatever! and Massive Electric Storm lol

Don't worry about the PM Geoff, I've got your details in the blog and will be in touch when everyone has responded.

It's not MI5 like at all. It's professional and commercial. I really don't see why you're making a fuss over it when, with the greatest of respect, The Sugar Bullets fit neither category of band that is required. Politely, you've made your point and I have answered it so move along and let those that are interested respond.

Steve, you're way off the mark. I'm not treating anyone with a lack of respect and you clearly haven't read the blog. I'm asking musicians to name their price, but be mindful that the budget is limited. You've come in here trying to tar me with a very shitty brush and I don't appreciate it.

Everyone involved in the event is pitching in offering discounted goods and services, and I mean EVERYONE from the catering to the brewery to the equipment hire. You've made several assumptions and misquoted me.

I note that you are not interested and thank you for your comments.

good luck with it... and goodbye

@Steve - there was no need to delete your posts. I wasn't overreacting, just defending my position. It sounded like you were accusing me of being on the make, when in reality it couldn't be any further from the truth.

@Willow - when the details have been ironed out, I will let you know. I can't promise sub £1.50 a pint, but I'll certainly shout you a few.
