its not too fussy just any quality tapes it records on a very fast speed but you can vary the speed I used to record guitar solos on it and slow them down to work them out

(dont answer... please!)

i know a lot of the big stores dont sell tapes anymore, but someone must still make them?

and here we go!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/TDK-Audio-Cassette-Tape-90min/dp/B00007K6NK

only the biggest retailer this side of the gamma quadrant! so things must be ok on the tape front.

That's a beauty! Tape is rubbish but it does have a charm in it's own way, I almost think that being so limited almost inspires you more than having infinate tracks of crystal clarity.

We used to put a tape recorder at the back of the room during rehearsals to record proceedings (oh the arguments I have captured!!) - the last time we tried recording rehearsals was when our sound guy had a Korg digital 8 track mixing desk - cost about £450 and he spent ages learning how to get the best from it! Was a brilliant sound - but how much simpler were things with the tape player? Plu it in, put in cassette, press play and record.......

On the other side of the coin, I've got an old Fostex reel to reel I use for doing some recordings. It's a tempremental old thing and it does appear to have settled on being a seven track machine these days but the thing I've noticed is that immediately you get great results from it. Whereas with digital stuff you can spend hours labouring over EQs and compressors, tape just seems to be able to dial in a lovely sound straight away.

I still think there's a place for analogue recording media. Even cassettes have their use, memory cards are getting cheaper but for recording jam sessions cassettes still rule - what else can store 90 minutes of music so cheaply?

god I remember my mum and dad having a reel to reel tape player thing! it was in a suitcase!! and you could play stuff backwards just by turning the tape round! brilliant.

Anyhoo - how much are you asking for the recorder Grooverman? Just to get this hijacked thread back on topic!! (Sorry bout that.....)

Hi Grooverman, I've just signed up to this Northwest bands thing with the slender hope that you still have this. I'm in the market for one - I'm also in the Northeast and not sure if I'm supposed to be here !
