Bands you thought would be massive

That never really did it!

You know you got the first cd, album, whatever, and they never really did much. Four for starters- gtr with steve howe and hackett, dan reed network, phantom rocker and slick and no sweat. Cracking stuff.

Little Angels.....
Saw them twice in their early days, great band that went off the map when The Cult poached their drummer.....

Electric Love Hogs.....
Saw them supporting Ugly Kid Joe and they totally stole the show, bought their debut album and played it to death.....brilliant.....never heard of them again.....

wow! So many accusations of horse molesting!!

I thought the Little Angels were ace too. Product of the working class was an ace single!

I remember buying an album by a guy names Robin George years ago - did all the instruments himself, decent songwriting etc. Thought he'd be HUGE, but nothing (over here anyway - dunno how he fared in America where he came from)

Thunder were pretty big for a while weren't they? I was going to say them, but I remember buying their greatest hits cd not long ago - and they had quite a bit of success with backstreet symphony didn't they?

Toss the Feathers
Goats Don't Shave

Both should have been as big as the Levellers and The Saw Doctors

@US Mail - lol ! I always hated Terence Trent Darby. I think his fish eyes used to scare the hell out of me!

I thought Autograph were pretty good......

Rootjoose, a great band with fun tunes from the mid-90s. This song is a classic in my eyes, and reminds me of being in primary school when everyone else was bumming off the Spice Girls I was into Placebo and Beck. If only I were as cool now! : -

Dredg. Still going and their album El Cielo is one of the best concept albums I've ever heard. For some reason it was completely overlooked:

Pull Tiger Tail: Great british band from a few years back. For a while they were the hip new thing and this tune has Radio 1 written all over it. Disappeared into nowhere once the hype died down.

It's Immaterial should've been far, far bigger than they were and the Railway Children too. I think baggy just destroyed all non flares and tie-dye wearing indie bands of the late 80s/early 90s.

Dan Reed Network - saw them at Manchester academy in early 90`s and they were brilliant.
The Storm. - half of Journey, great well crafted melodic rock.
Giant. Dan Huff, what can I say ?

MORPHINE
(great trio, not helped by the lead songer/songwriter dying onstage in Italy)
THE GODFATHERS
(straight ahead rocking band, not helped by 'difficult third album' syndrome and Britpop)
JELLYFISH
(genre-busting pop pastiche act, not helped by grunge movement)
BADFINGER
(awesome tunes, terrible luck with management,nNot helped by the two main songwriters committing suicide)
MANSUN
(Chester-based, superb first album, world at their feet, buggered it up. Where are they now?)

I used to do gigs at some of the Irish gaff's the 'Tossers' played. The drummer was called Paul I think, wouldn't let me use his kit - he did eventually - when we played at The Palace Levenshulme with them once. Dezzy Donnelly played fiddle and used to do a bit of the 'ol oirish with a chap called Barry (X craptors Rowetta without the make up!!) James

Mansun were absolutely awesome! Attack of the Grey Lantern was (and still is) a top album. Six isn't bad either, I just think they got stitched up when Brit Pop died, the music industry just went cold all the bands who came to prominence at that time, even if they were more in the Radiohead bracket than the Menswear one.

Tyketto - great shout..... Mr Big i would accept but they are monstrous in Japan ... apparently bigger than the beatles over there. Billy Sheehan does bass clinics in stadiums in Japan, over here "The Bass Centre" over there "Grampus 8 Football stadium". Skin a great great call.... One I would slide in is Jimmy Barnes for over here ... am always astonished that Micheal "meaningful" bolton made it and Jimmy Barnes didnt.

White Sister!, Y&T (Weren't as big as they truly deserved to be!), Rough Cutt, Coney Hatch.

Ian Mcnabb solo is best, great catchy songs and hooks and lots of great humour in his music, wonderful voice too

he ventured into the crowd at the last academy manchester gig i went too, i patted on the back with a well done mate and he handed me the mic on the chorus to Evangeline, awesome so funny that was!!

this song should be known by everybody, still got the fever

Spider's "Here we go Rock'n'Roll" - top track. I saw them at King Georges Hall in the 80's, two brothers in the band and the bassist looked like Bob Carolgees! Good band.

Another exellent band I saw at King Georges Hall was "ALASKA" with Bernie Marsden.
