to help prevent bands turning up at venues that are no more

In light of all the recent posts about bands turning up to venues that are suddenly closed (Dresden North End springs immediately to mind) or just unable to contact (ie Wellington Great Harwood no landline!), I thought it would be a great idea to have a list of each band on NWB, and which venues they are close to, so we can use each other as a buddy system to combat these problems.

so the list would go something like:

Band Name Location Venues
53 Degrees North Great Harwood Wellington
Royal Hotel
Cross Axes

and so on. Also, maybe it could include any surrounding areas you would be willing to 'service' as well (so in our case that would probably be Rishton and Clayton-le-Moors)

Of course, you'd have to consent to be on the list, and have contact details published (or just use pm's I suppose) - but I think it'd make an excellent system to prevent wasted journeys etc.

What do yall think?

Mick

Mick, i think it is a great idea, BUT.
With the way NWB works, the postings would vanish pretty quickly, unless Paul provided a single "page" that has a common link to access.. The format of the "Non-Muso" forum makes this a no-brainer as it would have it's own section, clearly visible.
I think this has been raised before along the lines of having all band/venue details logged, but the blog vanished from Page 1 with the inevitable consequences.
As the NMF is there, maybe it could be used for information like this?

I like your thinking. Maybe we could have it as a pinned post with people adding the name of the closed venue when they're aware of it.

and this reminds me to call in at the Roebuck in Leyland to find out and report on the present band situation, again for everyone benefit that had a gig booked before the venue went pear shaped on the live music front, alas this info will fall off the bottom of the page, but one thing is to be understood, a pinned post area on this subject should remain in context and not be subjected to sillyness, messing about and blogjackulating.
i am shure MR NWBS would agree.

@Rumble Fat Band

I've never even looked at the non muso forum! SOunds like a better place for it though. And I take your point about the post disappearing off the page. Perhaps a tab (like the 45's charity do one) on the menu bar would work as well?

I'd be up for that, we could put em on our profile page

Hi Mick,

From a personal point of view I much prefer the format of the Non Muso Forum. You don't have to wade through blog after blog looking for what you want. Each time you add a comment it "bumps" the posting to the top. Unfortunately I am in the minority and I think Paul is looking to kill it off.
I think it would great for things like this, but hey-ho.
Funny thing is, when the main MWB site went down a little while back, the NMF was "alive".
Here is a great example of how this format really works. I spend rather a lot of time on this particular forum, ( as do a number of other NWBers) :).

I agree with you - I think a 'hot' blog should stay at the top.

Or at least have properly pinned posts that stay on the first page no matter what

@Mark (DNE) - that's even better than what I was thinking - a section of your profile to list 'catchment' areas and venues near you! So long as you've given consent to be a middle man, other members can ask you to visit places for them (within reason of course!!)
