A great reception from a very mixed audience
First of all thanks to Alec on his advice to take a sat nav! We usually rely on 'Mavis' to guide us to a gig ,however we were beginning to find her a bit of a nag and opted on this occasion for rather less vocal Esmerelda who lead us straight to the door , no problem.
I'd say that the concert room at the Brow is the size of a small/medium working men's club with a long narrow stage taking up almost the full length of one side ( the room itself is almost square) and a separate podium that juts out in the centre on which your front person stands.
The DJ has a booth at the far end ( bar end) of the stage and the lighting system is more than adequate for any band.
We arrived just after 7:00pm which was early, indeed the footy was still being shown on the HUGE tv screen at the back of the stage. There were already a number of folk in the place and to be honest a lot of them , young and sports wear attired, looked to be the total antithesis of our more usual punter!
Things started to look up when , after a sound check of 'Don't Rock The Jukebox' , the DJ correctly pointied it out as a number by Alan Jacksonand told us that his wife ( who was sat at the front) was a massive country fan.
Some of the younger folk left and the place was looking a bit sparse by the time we went on for the first spot. Thankfully around 10pm a few more 'oldies' began to filter in and , although the place was by no means full , we actually went down much better than we could have ever anticipated in front of such a mixed 'non country' audience ( ok we did have one heckler - a young lad who kept shouting for Hotel California LOL!)
We were paid promptly and the landlady told us how much she'd enjoyed our performance as it was a refreshing change to hear something a little different, and fingers crossed it looks as though we are on for a rebooking!
So thanks to everyone at the Brow for an enjoyable evening and we hope to see you again soon!
Jules
