NWB needs freshening up

Controversy ahoy!

Seriously....the same people, the same jokes, the same blogs, the same arguments, the spamming, the back slapping, the ass kissing....it's all getting a bit tedious.

I'm bored and can't wait for NWB 2.0.

Please don't respond. I am only expressing my opinion.

The NorthWest scene is no different from anywhere else really.....
The Yorkshire bands sites have the same characters/arguments/debates as we do.....
If you're bored with us all....do a jig-saw or something.....

I think there's a few things that could be done to improve the site and make it less of a clique/classic rock club kind of mentality on here, but at the end of the day that comes down to the bands, fans and venues as well as the the guy who runs the site.

hey, c'mon, st!! iffen you don't like the "same old, same old", contribute something that you feel is "fresh and new", otherwise it's "don't know what i want but know how to get it"?
as for " Please don't respond. I am only expressing my opinion." it is difficult too see why you would post as your opinion as a blog yet expect people not to respond? -just an observation!!

not having a go at anyone here because i respect everybody on here, (whether i like everybody on here is another matter ha ha, i dont think theres anyone that does like everyone on NWB!!

ok..

apart from the negativity which seems to be people with nothing better to do

i still love this site

its human nature to form bonds with people that have things in common with yourself,

when it comes to music its all valid and all art, if i mention i was listening to stone roses the other day my so called classic rock "clique" friends would probably say "i hate them" , but they wouldnt disrespect me for it, as they know tomorrow i may be listening to megadeth , the carpenters or stevie wonder :-) they know i have no shame :-))))))))

the separate cliques, rivalry, or disrespect of other peoples tastes is only there if you look for or create it.

people need to take their blinkers off and stop being jealous of peoples friendships and camaraderie, its what keep this site great

I personally don't see any cliques on here.

I have swapped comments with loads of people on NWB and have subsequently gone watching their bands and have been surprised and delighted at the welcome recieved by me and the missus.

Last night, when hardly anybody was one the site, 4 of us had a laugh because we were bored and weren't out gigging or watchimg and I don't think we were offending anyone and the same 4 have not all met, so we for 4 are not a clique in any shape or form.

More - different people should put on interesting and thought provoking blogs rather than deliberate wind ups, to keep it FRESH and Interesting, that's me done now, I'm clicking off - oops sorry, logging off. Got a gig to go to,

S T, - See you again soon matey,

Rick.

If Rob had a clique, I'd be in it. It'd consist of nice people with a positive attitude who enjoy playing for the sake of playing. It would have no egotistical knobheads in it.

hmmmm If Im fed up of somewhere, dislike people who are in attendance or generally dont like the feel of the place... I stop going. I dont purposefully go back and stand in the middle of the place shouting "This is boring".

Its a bit like saying "god I really hate flattening my gonads till they are wafer thin with a bloody great big hammer, it makes my eyes water too much." Well stop doing it then is the only logical answer.

This site is damn fine at what it does, connects musos and venue owners.... if it didnt exist we would all be saying wouldnt it be neat if.....etc etc etc. Surely the term clique is a general term for friends, and back slapping? dunno about that its only people saying i really enjoyed last night mate or god you guys are good...wheres the harm?

Have personally made contacts with people on here who i probably would never have done otherwise, spotted a few bands who look like they would be cool, met a couple of old aquaintances .... not in any cliques as such but not met any knobheads which is nice.....

Lighten up man fer christs sake, I hope that NWB 2.0 is more of the same I quite like it actually.

This site is perfectly fine - it just needs more PUNTERS involved.

Absolutely everything else is fine. If anyone doesn't like the 'same old, same old' thing on here, then why not do something yourself to liven it up.

As you might guess I will go with st to a point on this. I have met some top blokes on here Rick and Anne 45's. Gary LGIT( BIG RED), Gary Cottonhouse SHAKERS. And there all genuinely nice people despite swapping insults and blog war comments. Sometimes things written can be lost in translation.

Maybe there should be separate Rock , Indie section for the said back slapping. I have done it so am not immune the brown nosing culture on here.

But as someone who has been to see alot of bands and some respected on here over the years not every single gig is amazing which is what people always put on the next day blogs.
I know depending on what stage of the set we are playing it might not be to everyones taste muso or not but its what we do. I know there are gigs which as an individual you havent played your best or the sound wasnt right tonight thats just down to the dynamics of the room etc.

But as much as I like people who have come and seen us tell us were good and posted that on here which is great, There has to be some honesty somewhere. Its like were all scared to say that was crap or not much cop. As for the same old same old posting reviews every sunday its just plain boring. We ( WHATEVER) did a wedding on Friday and it was amazing 400 people and as much food and drink we could muster. But I am not gonna put a review on here cause most people cant be arsed to read it and generally arent interested in the content anyway.

I know someone who went to see a well known band on here and the person who does the reviews (non band member) reviewed the next day saying they were amazing the place was rocking and was packed out when in truth there was about 15 people in the pub with no response. Why Lie?

Rick from the 45's and Gary from the cottonhouse shalers came to see us at Frankies bar and except for the last 4-5 songs we had little response and not many people in there but we did a job and had about 10 people going crazy at the end but in review terms on here it was packed with 100 people all singing and dancing on chairs.
I am not gonna get into who it is and please dont start guessing its not a biggy but I am not gonna get into a slanging match due to bloggers guessing who i mean, Its a generalisation of the blogs not a personal attack.

2.0 will help the site but there is tweaks needed not an overhaul. And more importantly honesty is needed before change. I thank you!!

Well put "Hulk". There were 200 people all squashed in at Frankies when me and Anne came to see you - LOL.

Seriously. I have NOT witness a bad gig from bands off this site and my reviews are really reports about the crowd and venue and lastly the band. You are right when you say - sometimes what we say on here can be missread at times,

Rick.

Thanks for all the responses. A real mixed bag.

For those that said "if you don't like it....", the fact is, I do like this site. Sometimes it just loses it's way a little for my liking. And that is only my opinion, I accept that and I accept that other people may not agree.

I do try and post interesting blogs now and again, but they soon get lost in the sea of spam and tedious drivel, confined to pages 2 onwards.

It's interesting to note that (generally) the people who have disagreed are the same people posting the same tedious stuff week in week out.

I didn't really want this to turn into another blog where everyone get's at one another (again). It was more of an attempt to subconsciously increase peoples awareness of what they are posting in an attempt minimise the dross. It didn't work and in hindsight, I should have known better.

As for Bass Bloke, lets face it, you would argue that black is white simply to disagree with me. What happened to staying away from my blogs lol

Ok guys heres an honest review of Piggery Bandana from Last Saturday at Helmshore.

The indifference of the audience and his pet mongrel "jessie" did little to inspire us to perform to our best, but professionals that we are we attempted to alienate him from the off by implying that jessie was also his girlfriend. He was particularly delighted by the opening chords of "Rock The Night" and drank up leaving us and a bar-man. The heating was as hot as a pensioners front room and forced the band into consuming more stella than would normally be consumed on a stag do in amsterdam.

Despite protests from the barman we started the second set in a drunken stupour, having witnessed a gaggle of girls walking in, taking one look at us and promptly walking out again. Cheers girls you missed a great second set, we wuzz banging the barman was dancing on a table. Amazing Night!!!

@social tornado-is it , perhaps, that what we have is is a text book case of "one man's meat"? in your opinion (which must be respected, however much one may disagree with it-ie-not subjected to derision or insult)there may well be "tedious drivel" and "spam" (ah! i'm old enough to remember when "spam" was just something you made great toasted egg sandwiches with!!)however-from another person's perspective it may be seen as interesting and informative, or a light hearted way to end a stressfull day - shades of grey running from black to white-as people's ideas/perceptions are?
as for "if you don't like it.." - in my view it could be seen as fair comment-all nwb members opinions can be valued whilst they accenuate the positive rather than highlighting the negative-vis: cotribute something which YOU feel is more in keeping with your idea of what the site should/can be (whch i have seen you do). ( i gaurantee someone will put up a blog proposing exactly the same criticism as you have, only this time aimed at your ideas? :-D

@piggery bandana-pmsl!!! i just have this terrible vision of you lot "banging the barman" for some perverted reason!! eeek!!:-/

Although he was cute in a kinda "Any holes a goal when your drunk and in helmshore" way.. AHEM!

@Viking - As usual you make some good points, although your bottom must be sore from the splinters (sitting on the fence lol) What some find amusing, others find tedious. You can't please all the people all the time. And various other cliches.

Onwards and upwards eh.

@alyerpal-why? what you got against cross breed equines?? ;-/

@social tornado-fence sitter? nahh! lol-just have learned to accept the world is full of views and opinions-some i can go along with -some i can't? can't change 'em in a "magic wand moment" either. "worry about things over which i have control-don't worry over things i have no control over"? not a cliche, i would aver, but a truism to keep stress at bay?
don't forget-some "cliches" are truisms that have been hijacked by those who wish to brainwash us into thinking all the same, without recourse to our own effective moral compass.
(now-that soapbox REALLY has splinters!! lmho!!)

and-never mind all that-what about that barman?? strumpet or what?? ;-P

plus-the roast chicken was extremely tasty, thank you!! roflmao!! ;-D
