Georgia Browns - venue review

I think it is undisputed that The Hindley Arms is THE venue for a Saturday night of 'classic' heavy rock - and big thanks to Dee and Dave in taking the time out to come and say hello again to Alyerpal and watch our first set (and also to Rick and Anne - 45's - who I got to meet for the first time).

However, over at Georgia Browns, Alison and Gary are working hard to build up a venue for those who prefer something lighter and (probably) newer.

And it's a great venue in itself. Bands set uo to the left of the door (as you walk in); there is a large, triangular stage area - we had plenty of room - with a good view of the whole room.

There is a large car park at the rear, so no problems with vehicles.

Even though the bar is in the centre, it is open plan, so punters get maximum choice of how near the band they want to be, from air guitaring right up front, to head nodding at the back of the room (where there was a game of darts going on aswell - but they were still singing along).

The venue is uncarpeted, so the sound is very 'bright' and a tad echoey, but it was only a matter of a little tweak to get a level, and once the place filled up, the sound evened out again.

Plenty of people in from the word go, and they were clearly up for it. Obvious from the start that this is a 'live' venue, and not just 'a pub with a band on'.

As for Alison and Gary, absolute gems! They were freindly, appreciative and helpful - even to keeping the door clear and watching the cars as we packed up.

All in all, a great venue. If you play indie rock / pop and maybe even you punks, get in touch with them - you'll have a good night.
