either get it done proper..or go on ebay and buy a roll of little stickers and a cetificate...stick little stickers on everything you got. Fill certificate in.
I got asked for one a few times when i was dj'ing...but never once got asked for proof. had stickers bloody everywhere too..even stuck em on my cds. LOL

The only problem with using the DIY route is that it makes whoever fills it in liable if anything goes wrong. Likewise, any insurance you have will be invalid if the test hasn't been done properly (ie just by buying and filling in stickers). You can buy pat testing machines, and for those playing in more than one band, that may be the way to go (one machine shared between them all). Pat testing should be done annually, so anyone who has filed in the stickers 5 years in advance will clearly have an invalid test.

Like Night Train said- I have been asked umpteen times but never been checked. Last time I didn't even bother. Those "wedding venue" places can be a pain in the ass and those asking never turn up on the night. They probably wouldn't know what they are looking for anyway.

I am in the Musicians Union and have public liability insurance (worth joining just for that) so I would use that as a get out clause if it came to it. Just make an excuse...The sparky you booked was ill..or something....not electricuted though lol!

pat test is a bit like an mot, once it's done you cant be held respoceable for any faults. its dependent on how often you use it, ie, if its a till in a pub you can do it for a year, if it's something thats used and moved often should be done more often, such as an amp you push in and out of vans!! normal price is about £2.00 an item ish, doing it yourself aint worth the paper its wrote on and will get you in bother, would be better not to do it at all.

irony here is that I'm sure we have all plugged into the most dodgiest of electricity sockets in many a pub, yet we are to be PAT tested? go figure...
