Does anyone else ever drop down to A?
A lot of people either love or hate his style - loose strings with a clicky percussive sound with all mids switched off so just high and low end....It certainly made the sound unique but do you love or hate it?
Well it's not me but it works for him as way to be heard through 2 guitarists also tune down to A. I love my mids. And no, I've never tuned down to A, low B is plenty enough for me. Other metal bands do/did though, some going to low G. Jon
Wow, G, didn't know bands go that low....the low strings must literally be falling off the side of the fretboard!!!
Our bassist uses a yamaha 5 string and we tune down half a step, so I guess he uses low b flat occasionally. It sounds thunderous. lol
put the thickest strings on possible to stop them flopping about! i was never a fan of his sound, but i guess it worked for them.
I'm not sure the low G actually gets played as an open string very often - it's more to do with playing riffs with guitarists tuned CGCFAD, so the bass is GCGCF I think... or could be G# on bass and C# on guitar? Jon
i like it. korn have a great sound. i never go below a bottom B tho
i like it, seems to suit the music as well, met him too, great guy
When i used to use my 5 string i only ever went as low as B , thats even with the heavier guage sets to ,if yer band tunes down it still dont make any differance to us so why fuck about ? just play out of position .but dont let yer guitarists try and follow you coz it fucks their tiny brains up lol
low G?!?!?!?! Daym that must be heart-attack inducing! Drop-D on my poxy 4 string sounds bad enough! We once tried drop C for Duality by Slipknot, but the problems were a) the geet wouldn't stay in tune, and b) we couldn't play it!!!!! (was a while ago and we hadn't been playing together long!) Mick ps to answer the original question - I think Korn are great - though am really only familiar with 'Untouchables' Mick
