The Situation at the Welly is ....

not quite decided yet .....please read on

As some of you will already have seen, The Ice Band have informed you all that we are cancelling all bands...

Most of what Janie has said is accurate, however I told Janie that I would be contacting any bands personally that may be cancelled this month and would then post a blog to let everyone know our situation, but would also continue to contact all bands.

Since Tuesday when I spoke with Janie, because me and Darren both care about live music and our customers and their likes, we have been sounding out our thoughts with our regulars to get some feedback.

Our original plan was to cancel everyone and then go with a selected amount and rotate on either a fortnightly or monthly basis, this may still be the case. We may on the other hand decide to just stick to one band a week, in which case we need to go through our bookings and decide who we cancel on any weekend where we have two booked in.

The fact that we have not yet fully decided what to do is the reason that I have not posted anything before now.

This is a very hard decision for us, because as anyone who has met us will know, we really are passionate about live music. I do not wish to let anyone down, but due to the current climate and the fact that the crowds are not coming in as we would like (agian if you've played here you know what I'm talking about) we have been left no choice but make cut backs. It's brilliant having live music if you can cover the cost, and if you don't which we're not then common sense dictates that something has to be done.

So rest assured I will let everyone know in due course of what our decision is and if you are one of the unfortunate bands that we have to cancel I will contact you personally.

I hope this clears everything up for everyone and should you wish to contact me either ring or leave a PM on here, I don't get as much time just lately to check in on NWB but I will make the effort to come on everyday over the next few weeks until all this has been resolved.

Thankyou all for your understanding and continued support it is very much appreciated by both myself and Darren.

Donna

P.s, yes I did double book the Ice Band tonight, it was an honest mistake but it was also a favour for a favour. I have few moments of being blonde but when they happen they happen good :/

Cant be easy for you donna and kudos for both for sticking with it best you can; I came down to see Bad Horsie last Saturday, it was quiet, through no fault of band or venue, but I felt that you might end up in a predicament, I think its still early days for your venue????
I think that once you've seen some of the bands, had local feedback etc, you can probably gauge yourself whats gonna work you and your locals long term.
We are a local band, our singer is from Gt Harwood and I work round the corner, so I'm hoping our date will be successful for you but there are never any guarantees at the moment.

I think we are hoping it works out for you as anyone who works at supporting live music, like you do, deserves better.

Good luck with it Donna, hopefully your plans work and you can keep going with the live music.
It would be a shame for it to completely stop - so good luck with it x

And again dont worry about the double booking its just human error and no big deal, like I said in my PM you've probably done me a favor having a nights rest anyway. xx

@ Night Train - not too sure yet, but I will give anyone affected plenty of notice, so don't worry just yet, you may be one of the lucky ones :)

Just a thought.... If you emailed the local paper,'The Lancs Telegraph' BEFORE Tuesday/5pm with gig details, then the date/band/time usually will appear in the following fridays edition in the "Whats on" feature in the gig-list!(free)try vicky.cosgrove@nqnw.co.uk Hope that helps!...same goes for bands as well, advertising gigs in the newspapers catchment area.
"Bee Radio" (blackburn/Darwen area) and "2BR" Radio (Burnley/Nelson/Colne area) would be a good try but again not a cast-iron plug.... but FREE! (usually they do!)!
Best wishes to the "Wellie"!...hope you get a good rep and regular music lovers visiting!
