KISS MEN Arena 10.5.2010 review

did they pull the trigger of my love gun ??

All things considered ie Genes and Pauls ages (60 and 58 respectively) and 2 stand ins for original members I think it was an awesome show, Paul obviously keeps in shape, he has huge charisma, he can still pretty much hit the notes, and knows how to work the crowd ! Simmons remains one of Rocks great showmen he struts around, does a fantstic trick on a harness where he flys up spittiing blood, he does still does his fire eating etc and still has energy and presence remarkable for his age.

Tommy Thayer on guitar does a good impression of Ace Frehleys pentatonic/ doublestop guitar style as well as shooting rockets etc some fans would like to have seen Thayer as a character of his own rather than the space ace however he does a workmanlike job of passing off the roll .

Eric Singer always delivers on the drums, Ive seen him with Gary moore in the past , his drums sounded fantastic, especially the kick, at one stage he produced a bazooka and fired it into the air, and he did some impressive vocals at one stage, again he covered very well for Peter Criss , but again Im sure a lot of fans would have liked to have seen him have a character of his own rather than be catman 2 (or 3 for the pedantic in the 70s Crisses drum tech would sometimes cover on the quiet if Criss had indluged a little too much) ) .

an impressive show involving screens, fireworks, mirror balls, pyros, hydraulic stages, swings all the stuff youd expect from KISS
the sound was resonable from where I was, the kit sounded great, Paul Stanley has a HUGE guitar tone, Thayers is a little thinner and toppier, Genes Bass is just Genes Bass, his effects laden bass "Solo" is more of a display than a virtuoso performance,
the vocals were a little distorted at times, there was a some form of processing on the vocals, at one stage the engineer wasnt quick enough in switching it off and Stanleys banter between songs had a harmony on it very briefly.

Simmons and Stanley remain 2 of Rocks master showmen, Stanley especially has bags of Energy and doesnt let up on the poseing etc. all in all worth every single penny to see these two legends in action.

every credit as well for NOT having Eric Singer perform "Beth" , its been a real sticking point for fans who see that as a Peter Criss tribute to his mother

brilliant

Would have loved to go, but with the financial commitments I've had recently I couldn't justify the ticket price.

I had a ticket but cudnt justify £50 at the mo ...been one of my fave bands since Destroyer album ...saw them at free trade hall may 13 1976 and it was a struggle scraping together the money for the ticket then £1:50 !!!

listning to alive 2 all day, bearing in mind its now 33 years since that was recorded, Criss and Frehley are very very Impressive, both are not traditionally lauded as great players- judging from the alive 2 performance they were at that time, Criss snare sounds fantastic, Freheley plays some great runs, I know Paul Gilbert name checks Frehley a lot as an influance, i think the issuse theyev had with various substances means Criss and Frehley are unlikely to feature in any future KISS plans

I had a great time there last night. Great showmanship, excellent crowd pleasing songs, great effects. It's been 25 years or so since I saw them, and even though they may not be as active, (who could bounce around in those platforms they wear), I thought they were superb. Hugely entertaining, I had a smile on my face from start to finish. Worth every penny I thought.

Yep it was a really good show. Well worth the money and KISS certainly spent a lot of the takings - shed loads of bangs and flashes and millions of pounds worth of lights, projectors and flame throwers. Oh the band was good as well.
Just a great allround show.
