Help needed with my ipod

iTunes cannot connect to an iPod that appears to be corrupted

Tried restoring to factory default several times, but just getting the same thing.
Been on 1001 forums tonight but still no joy.
I'm using iTunes 9 on windows7 ultimate.
The only thing that gives me a glimmer of hope is the fact that the iPod still starts up and gets to the menu screen, so maybe it's driver or iTunes related.
Anyone had a similar problem?

Yeah that was another possibility. I'm building an xp vitual machine so I'll stick iTunes on that and see what happens.

Fixed the ipod...wooohoooo

I restored it for factory settings on an xp machine, then unplugged it at the point of setting it up again.
Then plugged it into the windows 7 machine and set up the ipod from scratch on there and it works a charm.

phew....was getting withdrawal symptoms lol
