Out of Town and Absolute Heroes
So it was off to Atherton last night for myself, Iain (my bro), my mate John the fan, Andy (some of you may know him as the guitarist in Hazardous Waist) and Greg (the drummer in the laziest band in the northwest - Burly Chassis).
First port of call was The Jolly Nailor, to see 'Out of Town', a punky, new wavy type group. For the first time ever I have to admit I didn't get to meet any of the band! They were setting up when we arrived, then disappeared after the sound check. Then, Mack and his bro Mick from 'Absolute Heroes' came looking for me, so I was talking to them until the band came on. THEN, due to the next beer being needed, we moved onto Old Isaacs just as they finished their first set.
However, musically, top notch. They blasted out numbers by The sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam etc etc. The room they were in was rammed and the lads were very slick and professional. The only criticism I can make is that the bass was too loud in the mix, but that's OMO.
So, onto Old Isaacs, where 'Absolute Heroes' were just finishing their first set:
Mack on bass
Mick on guitar
Liam on vox
and
Marley on drums.
As Rick (45's) said in his revue, Marley (who is Mack's son) is only 15 and quite the show man - twiddling and throwing sticks, and swapping hands ala Keith Moon, extremely entertaining. Not to take anything from the rest of the band, all great musos. Had a good chat with Mack and Mick during the break (how many more nice people can I meet), then they went back on for another storming set with 2 solos from Marley!
It was a shame the pub wasn't busier, but those who were in enjoyed it, as did me 'n' the deputies.
So, afterwards it was burger and chips, and do the lads fancy seeing another band next Friday?
'Yeah. Whatever!'
