I'm going to sign up to that when I get a chance, pay to play is a complete disgrace. Force bands to sell tickets or pay a fee by all means, if the venue splits the profits on the bar and entrance fees 50/50 with the bands. Can't see that happening though, can you?

Hmmmm innarestin'

from the site
"To us, Music should be a Non profitable Art for both the people who create such a beautiful thing and the people who love such a beautiful thing called Music.

If anybody deserves any kind of payment for it,it should be the Bands,Artists and Acts all-over the United Kingdom and across the entire globe."

So should it be non-profitable love in - or should just the acts get the cash???

Totally agree with the sentiment against pay to play, but no-one is forced to do it, and that statement above is totally up its own arse.

And that's why I'm out!

Cant believe it's still going. My old band started a campaign against pay to play in 2003. It's the same old promoters raping the same old music scene. The venues take the beer sales, the promoters take the ticket sales (for doing what amounts to the square root of fuck all) and the bands get nothing, but they'll keep doing it in the name of chasing the dream.

Pay to play is very much alive and well,in most cities gig circuit. The whole con/racket is there to exploit the naivety of young bands, who think they will get exposure to an audience/a+r men.The sad reality is that you usually end up playing to a room full(?)of band "friends" and relatives, who promptly piss off the minute "their" band has played. It really is a cul-de-sacThere are good promoters who give a toss, the majority are just vultures.
The pay to play bollocks is one of the main reasons why it's almost the accepted norm, that bands doing "original" stuff should expect to receive no money for their performance. One golden rule for us is,anyone who wants any money up front, for anything , is a no-no.

Pay to play is a rubbish system and dosent work at all! After hearing what it can do to bands if you get ripped off (ask our friends Innuendo) then i know we certainly wont be doing these any time to soon, if ever!
