What do you use??

Having spent months living in the reheasal room pulling ourselves together as a band we are now looking forward to our first few proper gigs kicking off with the Weavers in Shaw on Saturday (mini plug).

We are keen to add some atmosphere to our shows using some sort of ighting and all the band memeber are in the dark when it comes to this (sorry, poor joke) so my question is two fold:

1. What sort of lighting do you use if any/what would you recomend as an "economical" starter pack?
2. What sort of price should we be looking to pay?

Just to give you a bit of background we are a 5 piece playing light rock/Indi, "sheeple pleasers" on the pub cirucit.

Any constructive advise is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Alan

I know someone is going to pick me up on this. there are actually three questions there not two. Maths was never my strong point.

You should find that most venues have some form of basic lighting... (i know we always have!)

NJD stuff is compact and great.. unless you are using a van, the par can route is hardwork.

We have a set of quads that we currently use and have just bought some Robocolour IIs from Catdog so the quads will be used at ground level now.

Hi guys,
at the moment i think I'm free on Saturday. If no emergencies come up, I've got a couple of four colours and stands - they're not for sale but it would give you an idea of what's available.

Post the weavers address and check my schedule for Saturday. No charge. I'll set up and strip down. Will need three sockets to plug into.

Package was £500 all in - have details if you want them.

Thanks for the feeedback so far.

@ Laura and the limelights. Really appreciate the offer for Saturday but I wouldn't want to put you to too much hassle. Were really just looking for a bit of a steer on what to buy not expecting to have anything for this weekend.

We use loads of PAR cans run from an ancient foot controller thingummy, as well as assorted security lights with coloured gels. It's all very heavy, unreliable and hot enough to give you a right headache :o[
I wouldn't recommend our setup to anyone. It does a good job of lighting the band though!

we use a proper budget pack: 3x Soundlab Vasto's and 3x LED PinSpot lights that link together!! We've picked them all up off ebay one at a time, not paid more than £30 each for any of them. Then splash out on a basic smoke machine and HEY PRESTO!! Knebworth in your living room!
Incidently, if you're after a more professional approach you could certainly do worse than speaking to Col @ Warrington Sound & Light. He's a fellow NWB member and is always more than happy to help...

+1 for NJD. We had an NJD quartet, (just sold to Trig), and it was great.
If you are looking at ParBars, try these instead. Made by Visage and bigger, brighter and more powerful than the KAM version. cheaper too.
