Jam sessions

What would be a good set of ground-rules for such events?.
I went to one recently near Oldham were the "house band" simply hogged the stage.. So how should it work? in an ideal word!!
what should i expect, what should i take with me, what should i learn?

thoughfully yours.

usually the 'house' band does three or four numbers to kick things off, in the better organised ones you put your name on a piece of paper with any song you want to do, and then you get up and do it, i am starting one in a couple of weeks near preston if your'e interested, with pubs closing at an allarming rate, we should support the ones prepared to give live music a chance, so come to mine anyone, or it to may be lost, new landlady looking to put on bands, starting with jam nights to see how it goes

@ armed n ready...

Well put m'dear...am hoping to do just that 2night down Timperley way(see Stonemasons blog). Denise & Gaz @ the pub have put a big effort into turning the place round & hopefully it'll be the start of a new musical era there tonight, but as you say....it'll only happen with support. However you do it....just get out there & do it!
