and please don't lynch me :0)

Ok,
now I know how lots of musos feel about this but please dont slag me off too much..lol.
I am seriously considering branching out into Karaoke... (pause for jeers, boos and throwing of hard items).... No, I mean SERIOUSLY!!. I have all the gear and at the moment my compadré is taking a break to sort out his work so I'm at a loose end.
As part of the project I was thinking of doing themed nights (ABBA, Elvis, swing etc) so.. as serious rockers would any of you lot consider attending a rock themed night?
Heres why you might: I have loads of rock karaoke files from Motorhead to Mettalica (one of which ive posted here).
If you are a frustrated singer with a band (drummer, bass player, we know who you are, lol) it could be a chance to vent that frustratuion and step up front. Lead singers, if you are thinking of suggesting a number to the lads but arent quite sure your vocals are up to it you can try it out before you make that suggestion. You never know, you might have a good night out..lol.
As you can see Karaoke files are long past the "ice crean van" tinny sounds of the past. Played through my Mackie PA they make some serious noise! All this and a full lightshow thrown in (Pars,pins,lasers.floods,effects.scanners,smoke).
So...waddayathink?..Heres the website currently under construction www.dukebockspartytrain.webeden.co.uk if you want any more info.
Oh..and venues..please dont hesitate to get in touch if you fancy putting on one of these nights :0)

if u got all the stuff already, it would be silly not to!

I for one love karaoke, just for the simple fact you can 'test' a song or even experiment with songs and genres u not dared to try yet!

I tried this years ago...at a true rock/biker pub....but despite my huge collection of hard to find rock, metal and blues karaoke discs, 99% of everybody who got up asked for Sweet Caroline or Abba tracks,,,bit of a disappointment really :(

not sure about it on its own but in the right venue it could go down a storm. In conjunction with a live act or two it could be fkin brilliant!! - get the crowd involved pre band!!!

Would people naysaying it on here put you off doing it?? If you've got the gear and the time and the inclination go for it ...
Yeah there are views that karaoke is the devil's work and is killing off live bands, but, even IF it is/was, it's somebody's way of earning a crust and to slag someone off for that, well, it ain't on really is it?

Sounds great man! You could do really well with some promo at the right venues. Go for it I say!

All very encouraging chaps, thanks for your opinions. @ Willow, no, it proably wouldnt m8. Thought Id run the idea past the guys on here as rock afficionados, especialy musos, are probably the most difficult to please. Its easy to get a pub full of drunken punters up doing, as Alec said, ABBA or Sweet Caroline, but being accepted by people who are passionate about a particular génre is a different kettle of ex Marillion lead singers!

I think its a good idea at the right venue or prior to a gig definitely.

You may actually hate me for saying it (I apologise in advance), but I have seen Guitar Hero set up in quite a few pubs and it seems to get a better response from rock crowds, than what I have seen of Karaoke in pubs (depending on the venue) as your getting everyone involved, not just singists... could this be a suggestion? With Guitar hero you get Karaoke Guitar, Karaoke Bass, Karaoke Drums and Karaoke itself. Just an suggestion and an observation.

I do think the Karaoke is a good idea though!
