Part two - The Outlaws

Well the posse was down to just me n Our kid last night, but as he was driving, I didn't care!

Had a good chat to Tex on arrival and tried not to heckle too much during the sound check (although there were several calls for 'Simon'!).

The band are:

Pat (The Prof) on lead guitar
Stuart (Captain Faz) on drums
John (Carrots) on Vox
John (Lew) on bass and vox
plus some of the time
Shaun (Tex LeBonn) on rhythm guitar and vox
(hope I got all the names right, 'cos i was a bit messy by the time we got round to introductions!)

The Outlaws are really a band of two halves - they operate seamlessly as a 4 piece outfit (which is what they did for most of the first set) playing Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Free etc etc.

But then they add Shaun in and gain another depth and flavour for songs from PinkFloyd, Bowie and (my personal favourite Tex!) 'Because the Night' by Patti Smith.

Everything is performed flawlessly, and Pat can noodle on guitar with any of the best noodlers, while John has a really great range and power to his vocals.

The other John and Stuart keep the whole thing together (although John plays with his strap only over his right shoulder - never seen that before) which is exactly what a rhythm section should do!

And then there's Shaun, who is actually a drummer (and singer) who plays supporting rhythm and sings backing vox very nicely!

The only critisism I could make, is that the end of the second set got a bit 'cabaret', but then, there's nowt wrong with that!

All in all a very enjoyable evening, made even better by the company.

I finally got to meet Last Gary In Town, and he really is an on the level bloke, and a good laugh to boot (not that I did. Boot him that is). Also Mark the guitarist from LGIT, Andy from The Lazzy Band and nearly two of Sticky fingers, but they escaped before I could say hello. Plus, ofcourse, Wez and Joanne from The Griffin.

Still not had a bad night out, and still meeting loads of great people.

Yes AYP, great to finally meet you....in another life I think we could be friends.....also nice to meet yer Bro Ian, Andy (Lazzy Band) is also good value, Big Wes..... and Jim and Dr Bob from Sticky Fingers.....a good turnout from the NWB lads to support a NWB gig....There was a good turnout last week at the 45's Hindley gig too I believe.....lets hope for more NWB get-togethers to support each others gigs.....
As to the Outlaws.....I am getting BORED with a lot of 'classic' rock bands, they're all the bloody same.....so for me to enjoy the band they've got to be either exceptionally good or have to offer something different.....I thought the Outlaws we're a good band with a very good Singer and Lead Guitarist but the rhythm section didn't deliver any power or energy into the mix.....giving them a more 'cabaret' feel.....however they did play most songs well and did a few 'different' tunes to keep people interested....During the encore I went outside for a smoke and heard the start of 'Alright now' for the last song.....I was soon joined by half the pub who are bored shitless by the Free Classic....say no more.....

Their backdrop was amazing.....it looked just like a set of long curtains.....talk about attention to detail, the cross-bar even looked like a curtain rail.....
