Another cancelled gig

Posted By : Whatever! | Comments : 21

Should of been this saturday and another one bites the dust.

The Glory this time was booked in ages ago too.

Getting more and more lanlords changing, stopping the bands etc.
I know it's old ground but the last couple of months we have lost a fair few gigs.

I think we have now overtaken Dresden North end for cancellations.
Fingers crossed for next week eh?
How many have you guys had cancelled lately?

Aiden (now on the lookout to watch someone).

To be fair, two of those WE chose to cancel.
The rest are double bookings, venue closures or landlord brainwaves.

And people wonder why I get so annoyed when another one goes for 'whatever reason' - like a venue f***ing us around? One of our band relies on music for a living.

Dont you think the site should run a policy of summat like 3 strikes n your out fer double bookings might make landlords / licencess / bookers pay attention to what ther booking. Or is the venue is gonna be closing then take if of the site.

Just a thought.

It should be said that the venue that we decided to cancel shows at - because the landlady there had a hysterical and violent screaming fit at us *for putting beer glasses on a table in a pub*, which almost made us pack up and leave at half time - got 4 weeks WRITTEN notice that we were cancelling.

One venue screwed us round royally by cancelling our next gig, because we said we couldn't keep going out for what were playing there for anymore (£40 below our fee). When we put it up by £20, we had our other gig cancelled.

The problem with naming and shaming venues is that it all gets nasty. People who play regularly at the said venues take sides and actually start calling the injured party names, etc. The only way to deal with these venues is to pass the word on and not go in them.

I could name venues that we will never go near again. Everyone on here can then say what a set of utter sh*ts they are and how badly they have treated their bands. The next thing you know, they will STILL have a full diary because people will still take the risk of doing business with them. Some bands will go out for rubbish money, because they are new bands and just want to play. heir choice. Wait 'til they get ripped off and treated like crap by these people.

Mr NWB has adopted a policy of neutrality and of not being a Policeman (which you can argue is right or wrong and I personally DO see his reasoning, as I have run forums myself) and of not kicking out venues that f*** bands around.

When we go to a venue, we are going there working in partnership with them to provide a successful evening. Not to be ripped off and treated like crap.

Well spoken Ian. True to say there are good and bad in all walks of life.Hopefully all the venues I have been associated with in the past have treated Bands and supporters alike with honesty and integrity.
Oooh by the way glad to hear thro the grapevine you have a replacement gig sorted for this coming Friday mate. Wlll Rally the faithful and come down to support both band and venue.

@Keef:

Yes, we are back in Blackpool this weekend. The Angels are on our side, today at least, I think.

I've put it on the giglist and on our site plus a couple of other places, as well as sending it to our e-mailing list.
.

Going back to my previous comment - we try to be a band who are fair and helpful to venues, some venues don't reciprocate.

20 x £200 = £4000.
Some people need to think about that before they jump to the defence of rogue venues.

from a band that have been constantly gigging for the last 5 years we have noticed a massive difference ( the no smoking ban the credit crunch) & its a constant battle to find more venues ,i look at our diary from say 3yrs ago & 80% of them have gone as music venues ,it is a struggle but you"ve gotta keep going & thats what we do & at the moment all us as bands are very lucky ...i feel sorry for the bands that used to play the the working mens clubs as that scene is dying a death as the working mens clubs are closing 10 times faster than any other music venues & i know this from bands that used to work those circuits .
