Myung is a class act but JPJ should have been higher up the chart
www.musicradar.com/.../25#content
Think it's just all kiddies that have voted - I mean, Slipknot, Metallica and Dream theater in the top 5? Glad to see some Bootsy in there. My top 5: Flea Glenn Hughes John Entwistle Billy Sheehan John Paul Jones How about you guys?
It's all subjective. My five would be (in no particular order):John Paul JonesJohn MyungJohn EntwistleFleaMark King
ME then John Entwistle, Scott Thunes, John Paul Jones, Jaco Pastorius
I think it's a good list of iconic and/or influential bassists! The order isn't really that important is it? I won't do a top 5 but has anyone noticed how's Flea's basslines guesting for others (eg The Mars Volta. Alanis Morrissette) are often better than his Chili Pepper ones? Jon
Couldn't agree more Jon, his bass playing on frusciante's solo stuff is phenomenal:
What a shit list.... Where's Bruce Foxton...? Where's Ali McMordie...? Where's Gary Walker...? It's a disgrace...
Gary Walker I am sure a wise man once said "Gary Walker, he isnt even the best bass player in LGIT"
There are no 'wise men' in WHATEVER.....
Jaco, Bootsy, Geddy, James Jefferson....All greats BUT...Where is Norman Watt-Roy????
Gary - they are listed on the "Top 3 punk bass players that Gary likes" list lolFoxton came in at 26 I think ;o)
Hey, I've just spotted you lot are on in Frodsham tomorrow...sorry I can't make it as LGIT and the worlds number ONE bassist are atThe Bath in Morecambe...but I'll put a nice ad on my Facebook for you.....good luck trying to entertain the 6 toed Jowyheads.....
I wouldn't advertise it on Facebook Gary. We won't be there. It got cancelled ages ago!!
WHY THE FUCK HAVE YOU STILL GOT IT ON YOUR GIG GUIDE THEN.....BLOODY AMATEURS....you try and help some people.....tisk....
Don't shout Gary. I don't know why it's still there. I don't use the Whatever log in, so I can't remove it.
I put a really nice, supportive message on FB as well.....so I've deleted it now.....
Ah well, the thought was there Gary. It's appreciated. Have a good un yourself. Another double header this weekend?
In no particular order:James JamersonJaco,Norman Watt-RoyStanley ClarkVictor WootenAdam Nitti Victor BaileyMe'Shell NdegéocelloRchard BonaJanek GwizdalaBondHadrien FeraudStefan RedtenbacherTM StevensYolanda CharlesBootsy CollinsMarcus Miller
Hey ASA, how's things goin' with WHATEVER.....have you got a new guitarist yet, one that can stay in tune, maybe one with hair this time eh.....
Stanley ClarkeJaco PastoriousMarcus MillerBernard EdwardsJames JamersonDefinitely subjective but I reckon technically there won't be anyone in the rock world to touch these 5
Thanks for asking Gary. Should be able to tell you more next week when things have settled down a bit. Chris and I have both had other things on our minds (moreso Chris tbf) but hopefully we'll be sorted soon.
Oi Gaz ya cheeky fook. i still stand by my words!!!!!!! Aiden
Don't know about the best but the coolest looking bassist ever was Paul Simonon of The Clash
