In-house PA at The Old Market Tavern

an update

My review of Coldflame a couple of weeks ago caused abit of an uproar, because I (justifiably) said that the sound could have been better, if there had been someone running the mixing desk.

I was NOT having a go at the band.

I was NOT having a go at Luis who is tasked with sorting the band out AND serving beer.

I was Not having a go at TOMT or their equipment.

Just to clarify:

The Old market Tavern is a brilliant venue, with a very good in-house PA system.

To bands playing there - try to get a mate or someone with a little musical know how to run the desk for you - it's all really well set up and self explanatory, but you can't run it yourselves because it is at the back of where the crowd stand (as it should be).

I did the sound last night for Phoenix, and even though I am not the most technically minded guy, we got a good mix with a bit of tweaking and advice from the listening punters.

Had a brilliant night aswell!

Yep, 3 monitors.

There are 12 channels, all from a stage box to the desk, so you can mic what you like.

Channels 1,2 and 3 are set up for vox, channel 4 for bass drum, we put the rest of the drums through 5 (Steve has his own little mixing desk and drum mics).

We did discuss DIing the guitars and bass, but got a good enough mix just using the back line.

Not sure if it's up and running yet, but I'm pretty sure that at some point you'll be able to record your performance aswell!

I read that review and didnt think anything was wrong with it all you did was point out a small error and help other bands in future be aware.

Further to all that...can confirm that John has lined up an engineer who will be takin care of business there very soon.

(At least then it'll stop any drunken yobs havin a fiddle like that odd fella with the tash last nite hahaha lol)

Great news that the OMT has now got an in house PA. The OMT is one of my favourite venues to play and we've always gone down well there. The addition of the new rig makes life sooooo much easier for all bands that play there. John and Jimmy are doing a cracking job with the place, looking forward to our return in 2011.

TOMT is definitely 'the jewel in the crown' of the Sth M/R music scene, and the quality gear that has been installed is a massive bonus for all bands palying there.

Will be awesome if John has lined up an engineer, but as I said, if I can get a decent sound out of it, anyone can!
