The ultimate classic punk experience?
After over a year of listening to Gary gob off about the ultimate classic punk rock experience, I thought it was high time that I went to see LGIT to see if they had the balls to back up this frankly ridiculous claim.
To be fair, punk has always been on the periphery of my musical taste. As a kid, my older brother used to play punk late into the night; keeping me up late on a school night whilst my folks were out at the working mans club. And it was mostly the commercial stuff he played - new wave, ska and a bit of Oi! I wasn't really sure if I was going to enjoy LGIT.
How wrong was I? It was a top, top night!! A decent crowd and a lot of LGIT fans!
I don't know about the ultimate classic punk experience, but it was certainly the most authentic. These four guys have the image, the sound and the skills. It's 100mph from start to finish. Classic punk tunes played with passion. I "get" what Gary's on about now. Add to that the level of professionalism.....their guitarist is also a top notch sound engineer and got the sound spot on, a true authentic punk sound in the mix. Not even a problem with Gary's bass amp could stop these guys. The singer launched into some John Cooper Clarke whilst the guys found a spare amp in the van. A couple of minutes and it was back on with the show. All very, very impressive stuff to be honest.
I said to Gary that I think he is doing himself and LGIT a disservice by suggesting that they only want to play in dark, dirty little pubs to proper punks. I think LGIT are so good, they would go down a storm in any venue. And from someone who isn't a massive fan of punk - that's the biggest compliment I can pay them.
Keep up the good work Gary. It's the little details that will set you apart.
