Songs with absolutely ridiculous middle sections

What was it with songs from the '70s and outrageous bits in the middle?

'Black Betty' by Ram Jam. I had the single edit of this for years and loved it, then the guitarist of a band I was in suggested we do it, and gave us all the album version to listen to. WTF?! Suddenly turns into a Focus track!

And the middle section of 'Radar Love' by Golden Earring is the same! You're listening to a perfectly good rock track and then 'Hello, and welcome to Jazz club. Great!' Grate more like.

And 'Jessica' by The Allman Brothers is the same.

Were they all on drugs or something?

Ha ha ha - caught in my own net!

I love that song (even though it is the most untypical BOC song) and you're right, it has a bizarre mid bit, but I think it works!

The problem I have with 'BB' and 'RL' is that (to me) the mid section just doesn't suit the rest of the track.

Now I'm going to get slated!

There's a Sabbath track that has a jazz moment, Symptom of the universe iirc. Real doom dark riff then, hello time for some jazz.

TBH I find most of Asia a bit ridonculous!

I know what you mean about SOTU James - but then it is from the 'we're so rich we've got coke on tap' era

I like the Counting Crows live approach of playing a full cover of Thunder Road as the middle section of Rain King. Makes it more interesting for sure. And 5 minutes longer than the album version ;)

'Wet T-Shirt Nite' by Frank Zappa has probably the most bonkers middle section in an otherwise straight song.. ever

Plenty Guns n Roses mentions here. What about 'Coma'? Great song but the middle section is utter shite.
