The Cowboy Outfit at The Little 'B' last night.

Well, me and IainRKid had to endure most of United v Birmingham last night waiting for the band to even set up. It was nearly disastrous, because 2 pints in, they ran out of 'Old Speckled Hen', but luckily found a barrel of 'Black Sheep' just in time for Birmingham's equalizer, so a good result all round!

This is a new venue for live music - Steve the LL has only been putting bands on for a short while, but it's an easy load in from the car park up a ramp, through double doors and onto a spacious stage area. Not sure about the power situation 'cos i wasn't actually playing.

So at about 10.15, The Cowboy Outfit swung into rockabilly action.

The band are:
Frank on acoustic guitar, harmonica and vox
Colin on drums
Horace on double bass
and
Paul on lead guitar

They played right through 'till 11.30 (which was when the bar shut) and the set was a good old mix of stuff from Johnny Cash to Buddy Holly to Carpenters - so something for every one.

Good crowd who sang and danced along with the music, and I think it says it all when at the end of the set, Steve booked them again for this Sunday night!

Video to follow when I can work out how to upload the feccker, and I guarantee it'll be an eye opener for yer.

On a personal note - thoroughly enjoyed it (as did my bro), great to meet you guys and would recommend this band to anyone.

I can only agree with rkid's comments, a very good entertaining band that got everyones feet tapping, and a few dancing, and the area for the bands is good. Thanks guys for a good night :-)

Au contraire my next life pal; it goes to prove just how popular and flexible this song is.

I doubt there are many songs done by so many different 'genres' of bands in so many styles to so much enthuiastic response.

I imagine you could wipe your arse in many different styles, and everyone does it so it must be popular.....but it still stinks of shit.....

Hi Alyerpal.

Great to meet you last night and thanks for the excellent review and the impromptu roadying. We had a great if hectic time.

I like the video even though it looks like I've got a big box-shaped head - oh, hang on, it's a speaker cab!

One of the reasons we started doing our version of Teenage Kicks was in reponse to some of the controversy on this very site and we seem to have fuelled that nicely! Personally I quite like it and it's something the punters can relate to. No harm in that if you don't take yourself too seriously. I think it would segue nicely into Sex on Fire don't you?

Just one thing Al, I think the Carpenters song you refer to is Jambalaya which was written by the great Hank Williams, I'd hate people to come along expecting to see a group of anorexics singing Top of the World!

All the best,
Horace

@ Gary - good to see you've found your level.....

@ TCO - you are quite right; it was 'Jambalaya' and I stand corrected!
The seue into 'Sex On Fire' sounds interesting too.......
