how do you like to do it ???

Hi all,

Long time no post…..

Looking if anyone has any tips / advice

Me and my two young sons got ourselves a cajon for Christmas

We had tried shifting the furniture setting up drums and lekky guitars in the dining room but Mrs RFC gets all stressed (your makin’ waves in me cuppa Lol !!) and lets face it that benefits no-one so we’ve retired to our little tv/games room with a motley collection of acoustic/folk instruments to become the waterboys…… and great fun it is too !!

So ….. any of you use a cajon ??

If so do you do it au naturelle with yer bare hands or do ya use anything ??

I saw Cormac Byrne of celtic band uiscedwr just before xmas and he seemed to be using the S&M version of fingerless cycling gloves.

Simon Lea (Seth Lakeman band) uses some things which look a bit like wooden spatulas …. They might be… I don’t know…

I’ve seen brushes demo’d on u-tube and someone on one of the folky sites was suggesting loo brushes work well !!

So before I go hunting for that bettaware catalogue….. anyone got any tips/advice ??

Cheers

Ian.

i have friend who uses a cajon in a three peice acoustic band and the box is miked up front and rear and has a surprizing variety of sounds when played by someone who can play them well. and they are best played with bare hands, finger tips for the top end sounds on the rim and palms for the bass end sound in the center of the box front, there are loads of tricks to get other sounds too, damping with one hand while playing with the other.

cheers marc that would be great .... think I'm gonna pick up some brushes anyway,

pete yeah the hand job works for me Lol, damping with your heel seems to work pretty well on ours too...

but my youngest who's the budding drummer is only 11 and more than a couple of songs his hands give in .... just want to encourage him really... seen some set ups on the net using all kinds... thinking of setting up something with his bass drum pedal... I seem to remember russ kunkel played a cardboard box with bass drum pedal on jackson Browne's "nothing but time" gotta be worth a try he he

cheers
