A review.......
Myself and Her Who Must Be Ignored attended a birthday bash at the Carters Arms in Middleton last night. The live band for the evening was this 4/5 piece band from the Rochdale area, so...what did I think?...
....Fekkin Brilliant thats what!
These guys are guaranteed to make any night go with a bang. Classic dance choons in a frenetic almost non stop mix had the crowd up dancing all night.
A couple of numbers particularly to note were, a great Michael Jackson mix of Billie Jean through Don't Stop Till You Get Enough and on to Thriller ending with a clever little quote from Man In The Mirror, and whichever twisted mind thought the Specials Too Much Too Young would slot nicely into the middle of the Mavericks Dance The Night Away !!!!..It really shouldnt work..but it does!
A real "feelgood" set superbly played with most of the guys sharing lead vocals and supplying some tight harmonies and even some "doowop" vocals in the absence of a horn section. Tonys solid bass playing and awesome slap techinique (bastard !!!!..lol) along with Dans tight drumming drive things along apace and keep the crowd on thier feet.
Special mention must go to Bongo Joe. Joe is 14 but looks about 10 and had all the ladies, (including mine!) , going "awwwwwwwwww...innee cute?" Looking a little like a rabbit caught in car headlights he supplied some mean rhythm guitar and percusion. Well done m8.
To sum up. Venues, if you want a band thats not doin the usual classic rock stuff but will get your punters up on the dance floor all night ....BOOK THESE GUYS!... and chaps and chapesses, if you are looking for a live band for your next shindig....BOOK THESE GUYS!
Thanks once again guys for a great night. It was good to meet you all and we were trying to remember just how many tunes you managed to cram into 2 sets all the 40 mile drive back home.
