BUT 8 hours straight in the same room...we may kill each other

Looking forward to spending the day at Redbridge Studios, we thought it was about time we had some 'quality' demos produced for our new website which will go live in a few weeks.

We've had to pick 3 songs from our set which we'll hopefully get recorded in one day...not going to give away which 3 but as soon as they've been mixed I'll post a blog so you can have a listen.

It's going to be a long day, don't think the Bullets have spent 8 hours straight together yet lol...we're all fairly patient but I heard tempers can fly in this environment. Only joking...we're really looking forward to the experience & hearing the end result.

Then back out on the road up to Queens Colne next Friday...

Ta
Dean

PS. Any tips, do's/don'ts or prank ideas welcome :)

looking forward to hearing it.
Pick the tracks that you are tightest on. It takes so long to get levels right, especially drums, you don't want to be wasting time when playing.

Being dead honest, if you listen to 'studio' demos of most bands, I think they sound 'too nice' and often a bit 'weedy', especially the lead vocal...and I believe you can lose your 'edge'... and make sure not to over-produce the tracks, don't forget you've got to play them live...

If you are recording your parts seperately - A tip that I use is when editing - take any talking and coughing out as the song is starting and when it finishes but during the song leave it all in! Like when you are waiting with the headphones on to sing the last verse after the solo and you turn away to cough.... Don't clean it up afterwards. You won't hear it on the finished track but it all helps to slightly 'muddy' the sound preventing it from sounding too clinical and over produced. Most engineers will think you are mad for suggesting it but you will be happy with the sound.

Tip 2 - the most obvious is that you all know the songs inside out, don't waste valuable time discussing arrangements or needing 15 takes to get it right.

Tip 3 - I would try to do it all in 6 1/2hours, take a copy home and listen to it on 3 different media sources. Then arrange to return for the other hour and half in a few days when you know exactly what is needed to finish it. Your ears get jaded after a while so give yourself a break and return with fresh ears and renewed enthusiasm.

Good luck
