Last nights gig cancelled by venue at 6.15pm

Firstly, apologies to anyone who ventured out to see Catdog at the Alley in Lancaster last night.
I got the call from the Alley at 6.15pm to say that there was a problem with the pumps / gas at the pub and they couldn`t serve any beer, thus they weren`t opening. Apparently they had " been trying to sort it all day with no success"

Ok.

So, ...I assume this is true. However, mightily annoyed because we were originally booked to play at The Bath (same owners) and they asked us to move it to The Alley a couple of weeks ago as they had double booked us. No prob says I.
Then I notice they were looking for a band here on NWB a couple of days ago due to " a mix up".

So... I suggest we play the Bath instead ? nope...."now sorted" was the reply.

My questions as follows..
Is there no technical support from the brewery in circumstances like this ?
Would you not just go to cash and carry and get a few cases rather than shut the pub ?
If the problem was known about earlier that day, why wait til 6.15 to make the call ?

Call me a twat, but I smell a rat, and I`ve spat my dummy right out of the band pram.
We are fortunate to be a busy band, and I could have filled Saturday night 4 times over. Not boasting, just truthful.

Perhaps it`s just another episode in the ongoing saga that is The Bath/Alley/Management Buy Out/ License Problem/Cashflow Problem that seems to have been going on since time immemorial.

Chris (now looking to swap a few Saturdays around this year. Diva ? ...probably)x

Don't blame you for being upset Chris, but NWB is a good place to get it 'off your chest'..... a good rant on here can really make you feel better.....
Thanks for sharing the info, we've got gigs booked with the Alley so it's all useful information.
All the best

I do think some venue's take the sap, It's as if they don't give a rats arse about the bands and the loss of money etc. if a band let the venue's down last min they would call them for everything! just saying like.

As a venue yes you do get support if you are a lease pub support is very good . we have never stopped selling all pumped products as if just 1 product goes down help is always just a few hours away and we would serve bottles we once had a power cut while a band was playing it took the power to the coolers , light, glass washers, but the show went on as we a on 3phases in the building we plugged some lights in and had tea lights in pint glasses people did have to drink bottled beer and drink out of plastic glasses we had a great night .

if the venue is tied to a lease like we are you cannot just go to the cash and carry as they would get fined for buying out these fines are about £250 for 1 case of beer so if the is the case that technical services could not get the product on we would of opened an sold what fridge products we had

on the other hand we have had bands let us down at 6pm on a sat night which has cost us big money a sat night taking even

Think you should ring and ask for more information x

Its a strange world, you know if you want to book a venue for some event (21st, wedding etc.) you have to pay a deposit. if you cancel for ANY reason including death they either keep your deposit or worse bill you for the full amount.
switch the situation around and "They don't like it up em!"
