Jolly Naylor & Georgia Browns

Not a review as such, just my observations. I Dont get out a lot to actually watch other bands but ex bass player from Kingpin Swifty asked me out for a beer and Al kept asking so we went to see Boneshaker at the Jolly Naylor first as Swift knows the singer Bob.
Only got to see the first set as the plan was to catch some Black Rose and some Crush later on, Boneshaker are a five piece which includes keyboards and a rarity on the pub circuit these days a Hammond and a Leslie Cabinet. This as you can imagine opens up loads of tunes that couldnt be pulled of normally.
The band started off to a packed pub with a absolutely fantastic rendition of "In Communicado", (Marillion) and ran into other great stuff you just dont hear, "Carry on my wayward son" (Kansas) and th long version of Focus's "Hocus Pocus" this tune really shows of Bobs vocal ability as he did the yodels note perfect and even did the long version of it. Included was a Floyd medley, some Foreigner, and finished with a great version of "Dont Stop believin" I know, overplayed last year but still a massive song to do live and done expertly. Really sorry I couldnt stay for the 2nd set but if you get chance, take some time out to see these guys, excellent musicians and a superb vocalist.

Next stop was hindley to catch Roj and Black Rose but it was that ram packed couldnt get in so shelved that to take in some Crush at Georgia Browns with a view to nipping back over to the Hindley later (didnt happen unfortunately).

Great energy form these guys, with a good mix of something for everybody. got to meet Pete and Stuart briefly after a cracking encore of Freebird. Thought your version was brilliant of the Killers "Somebody told me"

Great to meet up with Graham, Aiden, Tex, Rick and their ladies, and me mukka Al, great night, just a pity I was bloody driving!

What did strike me when looking at the night through sober eyes was that I saw three pubs absolutely packed to the rafters which in the face of all the doom and gloom is fantastic. Whatever the landlords/ladies of these places are doing, please bottle it and let some other places have some but its no surprise that all three establishments had three cracking live acts on, long may it continue!

Thanks for the kind words Keith it was a pleasure meeting you, shame you couldn't stay for the second spot the place was rammed all night but sounded like a great night in Hindley anyway.
Good to see these venues packed out. We've played to full pubs all month which for January just isn't the norm, just hope this trend continues and we're all kept busy throughout the year.

Keith - you really should post more often! Nice to see you in a 'social' sense for once (even though I was hammered!) and Swifty too.

I just wish i lived in Wigan; the Atherton/Hindley scene is very much aLive and kicking.

See you Thursday mate.

What a beltin night that was. It was the first time in Hindley for me and what an amazing place it is for live music. I caught a few minutes of Black Rose but as Roadie/Groupie for Crush I had to get back to Georgia Brown's to support them. I'm sure the band are still buzzing from the fantastic reception they got. Looking forward to coming to Hindley again soon x
