HK ACTOR - please advise

Looking for experienced users to advise us on the diff between the actor and DAP Audio Equivelant

We currently use a custom built PA using Fane and Eminences speaker with an awesome sound ..... however, the boys in the band have convinced me to start looking at the active side of PA.. for obvious reasons, One being our guitarist is in need of muscle build before he lift anything up other than his extended range of Guitars

I have been surfing over HK and DAP along with other systems . . . . HK have a high retail key and DAP equiv is a few grand cheaper. Is this the classic case of ALDI beans are not/are the same as Heinz...lol U know what Im sayin'!!

I dont want to end up deciding on the wrong PA as Im a bit spoilt... and will stamp my feet if I dont get the sound feel Im after.

Is their anyone out their that can advise through experience of at least one of the systems.

I had a DAP system...for one gig....DAP soundmate 2) but it just didnt cut through at all in a band situation (and the gig we used it for wasn't that big)...plus, started distorting when nowhere near full power...despite a good Mackie mixer/Beta 87's.
Was an embarrassing gig really
The bad part was the tops...just poor components..
Definitely not the HK sound they attempt to emulate.

yeh, probably good for a small mobile disco that wants lightweight stuff with a full sound.
For active PA you really can't beat Mackie or some JBL stuff (I use a pair of JBL PRX512's and a small sub if needed...plenty loud and quality sound)...for price of a new DAP you could get a pair of decent Mackie subs (1501's) and some 450's or 1521 s/h...

HK Audio every time - tried Mackies, good but overheat. Tried DAP, mainly for DJ's. So HK Audio it is - you pay a bit more, but you get quality and peace of mind. Have LUCAS Alpha and DEACON in stock, plus DART monitors - if you wanna try them out on a gig, just PM me. Can get HK Audio at trade plus vat, just ask if you want a price. Quite hard to find 2nd hand on ebay as most keep them. Which mixer are you using?

Had a Demo of the QSC tops just expensive, they are awesome for the size, we have never had a problem with Mackies overheating but we always ran them with the control at 12o clock never higher, they have been really brilliant.

Good Stuff Using Allen and Heath PA 20 with external enhancer... would love to try out a system to give me a better idea but deffo looking at the actor size stuff as the system we have at this time is big sound stuff nice long throw sound on the Kit etc .. so wanna keep that edge for some of the bigger venues we get..

I never had a problem with Mackies overheating...I think a lot of that was when dj's used em and just tried to put out too much bass. For vocals they were great...not sure about the current models, not had any.
If you don't mind weight, look to the 15 series...1521s, 1530s, etc...real full range speakers...the new ones of those look the business, but the old ones were too...just not a one man lift, which is the ony reason I got rid of mine

Had a pair of SRM450's with 1801z's. MAckie state to not go above 12oclock, so why build with +6db then. They also suggest to keep them cool with fans on the fins - when asked why don't they build them with fans in, they couldn't answer me - Peavey were using Heat Fins on their amps years ago (remember the XR600C's!)

At a gig i forgot my speaker stands so used the 450's wedge style. Cut out every 10mins as overheating - not even at 12oclock. Had to beg the venue for 2 fans - anyway, soon sold them after that.

So, for me, it's gotta be HK Audio and Allen & Heath. Used them for years without any problems whatsoever AND, they hold their price when selling on. Sorted.
