For me it always seems to be female vocals - when the harmonies kick in in the chorus, it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up......

"mistreated" has a certain relevance to things goin' on in my life at the time, too. the zep tune is one of those rare occasions when, i reckon, a band can walk of stage and, justifiably, say to themselves "we were ferkin' AWESOME", weren't we??"

it's a song written about a Northern Irish policeman murdered by terrorists, from the point of view of his widow. Such a heart-wrenching, moving track.

So, this is a great thread ..... and loads of songs that we wouldn't usually see ...... so, can i ask a question ....... ??

Why don't the people who've posted these songs as music that moves them ........ play them???

Wouldn't you want to play these songs in front of the general unwashed public and try and get THAT music out there???

May be a whole new blog ....... ?? Who knows?

Great idea for a blog. So many songs come to mind so heres a few:

Nick Drake - One Of These Things First, guess this is considering his personal life and suicide and reminds me of a certain time in my own life...

Kenny Rogers - Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town...can't really explain this one but it just does, guess partly the lyrical content and it sounds great..

REM - Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight, don't even like REM that much but this really reminds me of my childhood so it's moving in that way.

All give me a certain feeling other songs can not.

Reading that you forgot about that one made me realise I forgot about this one, probably the most moving song I've ever heard, for no actual personal reason..

Gavin Bryars recorded a homeless man singing when making a documentary and put the vocals to strings etc, incredibly powerful, the wikipedia article on it explains more about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus'_Blood_Never_Failed_Me_Yet

but yeah heres the song:

Faithfully by Journey, being in a band you can kinda relate to the words, even though they are a little corny, cant think of anybody who sings a bad salad better than Mr Perry, and living years by Mike and the mechanics, remember my dad crying when he heard me sing it on a karaoke when it first came out, not sure if he liked it or wanted me to stop!!!!
gotta say still too young to remember by It Bites, the first time I saw Francis Dunnery sing and play this will stay in my mind for a long time.

@ Trig...
this song was actually directly written about Clapton losing his son.
Tears in heaven was for a film soundtrack.
eqally powerful.
i get a shiver on the line "what you see and what you will hear, will last you for the rest of your life"
G.
Ps i was at the MTV unplugged concert with only 250 people. it was amazing. i sold my old ticket (which i won on a radio comp) last year on Ebay and got £140 for it.

@Face it - It's the last Thursday in the month when Tramown Junction and a different monthly guest perform. I play a selection of tunes in between, it's usually world music based but (similar to John Peel and Andy Kershaw) it's very eclectic and quite random.

Reggae band last month, not sure who the guest act will be this month. Whoever it is the atmosphere is always good. Start between 9-9.30pm.
