but I'm getting abit sick and tired of all this bitchiness

I play drums.

I play drums because I love making music and can't play anything else well enough to do it in front of people.

I have no illusions that I am the best drummer in the world, but, thankfully, I'm good enough that my band mates want to play along with me.

So I play drums with my bands and have bloody good fun doing it and I think from the reaction we get and the rebookings we get that most of the punters and venues we play for think we are OK aswell.

But I also love music and the associated buzz that goes with it, so that when I'm not playing I go to see other bands and meet other people and have bloody good fun doing that.

And because this is a muso forum I am under the illusion that other people on here will be interested in what is going on out there.

So I tell people where I am going in the hope that they might want to come along.

So I review the bands I have seen in the only way I know how - honestly.

So I review venues in the hope that it will help other bands to know what to expect if they haven't played there.

And from the feedback I get from some of you, and from the amount of people that HAVE come along to a gig, it is worth it.

But what is it with the 'blowing smoke up arses'?

What is it with the 'brown nosing'?

What is it with the 'arse kissing'?

What is it with 'cliques'?

Why would anyone on here have a go at anyone else (and I'm not talking about discussion or disagreements) - aren't we all in this together?

This La La Land of ours is the best forum I have ever come across, both for content and structure, and there is alot of support and good natured entertainment on here.

But there is also an under current of 'having a go' at people for reasons I don't understand.

At the end of the day (the sun goes down), you either join in on here or you don't.

Why make snide comments on other people?

I just don't get it.

Al

I'm over my clique crisis and demonstrably shame faced over it. I hope that my reply below hasn't been taken out of context....anyway you started it!

I think the recession and increased competition for fewer and lesser paying gigs probably plays a part in things. It's getting that bit more cut throat out there and its possibly easy, particularly with the benefit of anonimity on forums to release some of those frustrations in a virtual forum. I'm not excusing it, certainly not for my own part, but just trying to rationalise where some of the negativity may stem from.

For what its worth I think I now may want to have your babies, but then I'm a sad old duffer with an eating disorder and fear of triangles. Is that weird?

AYP...I too share your passion for 'other peoples' bands and the live music scene....and we've bumped into each other a few times as 'punters' and neither of us have worn a 'LOOK AT ME' hat...we drop our 'rock star' egos and go out as humble punters to enjoy the events and meet people.....I enjoy the banter on NWB and always enjoy meeting other members, many of whom I've had contact/discussion with on this forum.
I must admit to throwing a few custard pies myself, that's because I'm an abrasive bastard who doesn't take kindly to parasites,,,but I think 95% of my involvement here is positive. A LOT of people misunderstand me or have been misinformed about me by shit stirrers.....unfortunately, it goes with the territory.
Fact is...too many people are out for themselves in this World and maybe don't understand the concept of 'giving'.....see you around the scene mate....Gary

Almepal
Don't know what/who/where you're refering to as not been on here as much recently, but whatever it is ignore it & just let it get bogged down the forum pages with the other stuff.
I agree this la la land is a great resource (the best in NW) and 'can' be a decent craic at times when bandees decide to take their head out their arse (me included!).
There's been a slow but growing shift of people/fans from NWB, Myspace etc. move over to our Facebook page where we get to interact with the people who are actually taking the time to come see our shows, so the banter is more targeted and friendly.

Like you've always said, the friends you've made here are in your phonebook :)
Take care pal.

I've noticed that there's been a few nasty blogs and snipes on here of late, it's a shame as when the forum's good it's great. That being said I've had some fantastic discussions recently - particularly about distribution of music - and there's still a community on here.

I think the clique thing stems from the fact that there's a lot of people on here who have very similar interests and music. I don't think it's intentional at all, it's just natural if a bunch of lads in a rock covers bands are doing gigs and playing similar places, they're probably going to talk to each other about it.

@Al, you should know better than anyone that bitching about bitching will get you precisely nowhere on NWB.

If you're blogging (in general) because you enjoy it, just keep doing it. If you're not enjoying it (and only you can answer that, not someone else who disagrees with you) then stop doing it. We're all here to promote ourselves, promote our services/music, make friends and have a good time.

Those that are here simply to cause trouble soon get found out/fall by the wayside.

Just forget about it Al, and don't even bother putting blogs like this up cause whilst you get a lots of positives, you'll always get the negatives. Feckin waste of time. Let the the naughty ones play there game, but just don't take the bait, that's why I just use this site for what it should be used for, plus the fact that I don't have the time for all this kind of utter fuckin crap.

Cheers everyone - saw me arse abit last night! (Was having a sherbert at the time).

I fully agree with you all about not letting it get to you, but it still does every now and again.

Probably for exactly the reason you state Roj - because the negative crap puts people off and that's a real shame....
