A weekly NWB email newsletter

Should we have one? and what should it contain?

I'm toying with the idea of a weekly newsletter, with a round up what's been happening on the site

Is this a good idea? - What features would you like to see?

1) Hot blog posts for that week
2) Upcoming gigs for the weekend
3) New Venues that have signed up
4) Venues looking for bands?

Anything else?

A reminder of links that will earn the site a little cash?
A summary/highlights of items for sale by members?

A summary for the week of interesting stuff that could of been missed would be a good idea, especially for the ones that only seldom visit the site,

Rick.

maybe the nwb'ers who visit bands in their spare time could lend a hand, maybe gig reviews and band critiques?? for new bands and even ones of old who are still rockin strong ? make it a feature every month ?

a list of members who offer their services ?? eg ST who does the guys a great shoot ??

Band of the month ? with a band pic similar to the home page, just to get a good view of all members

links to practice rooms ect ?

Reviews good. Ads good. Band (chosen at random) interviews good. Reviews of any releases good. Long email duplicating much of the content on here already not good.

It'd be good to see a band of the week feature. Maybe a generic set of questions that bands can fill in. Those that can be arsed get a chance to go on the feature..? I'd like to see some band reviews by venues/fans/other bands. Positive stuff rather than slagging off of course. If you ain't got anything good to say then don't say anything. Would e good to post it on FB, we'd share the link out to all our fanbase.

@The Villains - re reviews - a massive can of worms that one. We have been there before and it was painful! Basically, unless the reviews are only positive then I wouldn't bother and if the reviews are only positive then I can't see the point in bothering anyway.
There have been more arguments on here following reviews than anything else....and the most angry ones too. I recall two occasions when NWB resembled a war zone rather than a friendly community resource! In principle it is a good idea but nobody really wants to take criticism whether constructive or not. Only a very few will accept it, the vast majority will be offended.
A band of the week feature would be a good idea and I think that all bands would like to be featured. +1

Just to add to Gary Cotton houses can of worms comment, I once suggested a TripAdvisor type thing for bands, Bandadvisor. Not a good idea looking back, as I gave my crash helmet to the charity shop years ago. They're a touchy lot musos, lol.
I just hope no one suggests a Facebook type 'like' button. ARRGH.

Whilst on holiday here in the Canaries. .. 'Little Ireland' to be exact, I have done a review of Rihanna because they love her music over here. In my humble opinion I reckon that I could submit an incredibly accurate and detailed review if anyone is interested.

I concur Gary old bean, especially if they were co-authored with your mate Spam95.
Just to remind me, who was it on here who was after breaking his legs ( allegedly) after critiquing
a certain Punk Classics Band?

Great idea Gary. Just one thing to remember. You can slag venue's off. On no account must you ever even remotely criticise a band (whatever the crime) otherwise the full weight of nwb will descend upon you.

@Tel. I bought your crash helmet all those years ago. Just putting it on now.

Gary.

Good point Gary GB'S.

Yes Tel, that is one of the occasions when the fan was hit! I did warm Spam that it wasn't a good idea to review bands but he was adamant that he was going to do it. On that occasion the band in question played a style of music that he just didn't get. Therefore any criticisms of the band appeared to be without substance. Reviewers need to be 'anonymous' because people will inevitably hate you! If you write for the NME then you can get away with it but not on a local community forum.
