I've had my fair share of scrapes on here in the last week and have found the community to be almost singularly open minded when it comes to giving forgiveness and letting bygones be just that.

It's easy to misinterpret things said in print. I read your posts and understood them as an indication of your support for the predicament that the Avenue were faced with. You've made commendable (if a little forceful) attempts to reconcile but have been rebuffed.

Forums are hotbeds for recalcitrance and argument. I said above "almost" because there will always be people you can't communicate effectively with. It's the way of the world. You've risen above it once in seeking to make amends, please keep the moral high ground and don't leave the forum. As Jez C said, just step back. 'Tis easy peasy.

Just seen all this.. well well the avenue pub strike again getting peoples backs up. As everyone mentioned in the blog, there's no question with the fact that a band/venue must honour the agreed rate.
What I don't get is their attitude towards ppl on here, not the first time something like this has happened with them, its clearly a misunderstanding but rather them just jumping in and snapping, why not just ask you to clarify what was meant by your comments.. on this site it is a community which is great for helping each other out/getting advice and just generally good for the banter etc. Some sad ppl really do just try arguing over the most petty things.
In regards to the comments from 'Ken'.. well what can I say, to create a new account to take personal digs at ppl, that just shows the idiotic, cowardly attitude that I'm talking about. Pathetic.

I have to admit I have great respect for all venues we play at and we have great working relationships them all. I do actually think its quite safe to say we'll never gig at the avenue pub, and for the sake of £50.. ill get over it.

If you look at the last post I put on the blog in question I did apologise saying try to make it clear when you post to try to clear what your actually getting across. The problem seems to be that some people spend more time on here and probably in-front of there computer doing bugger all than anything else. Some people on here say exactly what they think and some or most just mince there words and it seems everyone whose commented on this blog already has moaned at my Mrs before because of how we work to a budget regards entertainment

Very true Mr Anthony Idle promise you never will play here, I to have great respect for every band that plays here each customer that drinks here but people like you and your mate seem to be living a life with tunnel vision. The £50 is irrelevant now for me it could be £5, £50 or £500

Finally whoever Ken is can have his opinion although as I've seen it is a little 'childish just like Willow and Jez C?? You all carrying on this pointless bickering between yourselves about me but I've put across my point your man got his apology but still after that put this 'attention seeking' blog on i don't give a s**t where you play if you play how good you play but I will continue to do well.

I'd missed the second half of that blog yesterday and just read through after this. It's one of the most surreal things I've read on here I'd say. How they can quote what you say in a post and then still completely misinterpret those very words. Just plain weird.

Don't give up on the site for that. Loads more positives on here to outweigh the negatives they've thrown at you there mate. And to be honest, from the outside, you clearly came off from the exchange with more respect (from others on here) than they did.

And what would an apology from them really be worth? You know what you wrote and what you meant and it made perfect sense to me, every time I read it but then my degree is not in English ;)

keep coming it was a misinterpretation of what was said I apologised but everybody now commenting is the people or bands who we've refused gigs to due to one reason or another mainly over our policy for paying bands a little less for 1st gigs which they play, so this is rather than you agreeing with what's been said a personal thing now, so if you've any problems which you seem to have they seem to be with me so bring them to me you know exactly who I am where are venue is come down and watch a band see how we do in your personal opinion then and we'll talk like adults person to person.

But the majority of people commenting now have argued with us over our policy for booking bands, which is nobodies business but are own, but one or two still contacted for a gig who argued with you at the time played for the lesser fee and then got further bookings for the price they originally asked for so for us it must be working, if you wanna keep ganging up keep it up but will still have live music playing week after week

@Idle Promise - I couldn't fall out with anyone if I tried. I only pointed out a misunderstanding and it should not be taken as any more than that. You contribute to this site and should continue to do so, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Personally I have no problem at all with your pay structure or policy on hiring bands. If it keeps you in business and bands choose to play, adhering to that policy then fair play to you both. My opinion is also that you should have named the band you had issue with as a caution to other venues, and briefly just say that they came back wanting more. To put the whole thing on with updates of what was said between you was pretty grotesque and contradicts what you say about how much you pay being between bands and yourself.

Other people, like you say, might have some personal gripe with you which is also none of my business but my objection here is only based on how you conducted yourself when posting on that particular blog which I thought was completely out of order and I think it's very sad that a valuable contributor to these blogs would walk away from the site because of that aggression and stubborness you show on this subject. I've seen your apology posted there now and fair play to you for a bit of humility there.

As you all know I say it as I see it.....I also have personal experience of the Avenue to back up my personal opinions.
I believe the Avenue is a very 'individual' venue who have some rather 'innovative' ideas.
Leigh is a 'quiet' town and the Avenue can be full or empty depending on what entertainment is on offer.
I believe Ian & Shelly are very genuine people who want the Avenue to survive and thrive as a Live music venue for us all.....and I believe they are very nice people too....OK, so we all make comments that are misinterpreted, and we all say things that are taken out of context.....even me on occasion.....
I believe the Avenue gets some very unfair press on here from people who've never been to the place and don't understand how it's run.....We, LGIT played there recently, had a great night and are booked in for a return gig we'll look forward to.....In my opinion, it's a very good venue.....
Also, knowing a couple of the Idle Promise lads I can vouch for them as being on my rather short list of people who actually give a toss and are worth the effort.....and who attended the NWB meeting I set up.
The Avenue also wanted to get involved by holding a meeting for us.....
It seems to me that the 2 parties here have more in common than they realise.....I hope you can make friends and put this misunderstanding behind you.....

Unlike Stu, I do have issues with the pay policy at the Avenue however, that is not the issue here (and I don't let such such disagreements fetter my judgement of people as my attempt to assist in the thread over problems paying their PRS licence fee proved - an offer that was ignored incidentally).

I agree with what others have said that a simple and far less emotive blog would have sufficed. The exchanges with Idle Promise (who I don't know from adam) were heavy handed and ill judged. It now seems wholly hypocritical, having posted, verbatim, the exchanges the Avenue had with the band in question (who aren't registered here and therefore unable to defend themselves, however fruitless that attempt may have been) that they are seeking to censor any further discussion on their conduct in the matter and take the discussion off the forum.

I will, however, concede that I misinterpreted the apology given by the Avenue as a non apology as the tone of the post seemed openly hostile. It appeared to read along the lines of "you want an apology well I'm sorry but I won't". I now understand that I misread it and wonder if others did likewise. However, that said, it wouldn't have affected what I posted to IP earlier in this thread so the point is moot in any event.

the band are registered on here were recently on the site and were 'almost' named in the original blog. With regards to the PRS blog are we gonna bring more and more things up, if you don't like the way I work that's like I carry on saying I will respect other opinions but may not agree with it

My comment about the PRS is entirely pertinent in the context of your having denounced the majority of those who showed any support for IP as having done so on account of bearing a grudge against you or the manner in which you do business. It appears to me that you have shown equal capacity to ostracise those who have previously demonstrated any hint of disaffectedness in their prior dealings with you, notwithstanding any attempt made to let bygones be bygones.

I can't respond to your last sentence as it is both ungrammatical and nonsensical.

We as a premises never doubted never disagreed with what you stated regards the payment of the PRS just posted a simple statement for people to see as to things happening for the worst again.

MY last sentence basically you don't like the way I work that's your opinion I have no real problem with that but I do like the way I work, obviously that's why we continue to do it.

As for letting bygones be bygones, I like many always make my point clear whether people like it or not and it always seems to be the same people jump on it moaning, so be it, let them do it, do I regret anything I've said on here, yes I regret misinterpreting what was originally said, I apologised and just said be careful when posting you get your point across then all this comes on, so, I did as asked apologised for my wrong then everybody jumps on the bandwagon on this blog............which really doesn't bother me in the slightest I apologised gave my reason as to what happened, end of on my point but people keep with this I'll just continue to give my point of view as to what is posted

Its opinions aint it, you cant please all the people all the time.
Dont leave the site though because just like politics you need a broad spectrum of ideas etc. to sometimes sway your own mind.

@the Avenue. You've posted again so I've quickly edited this to simply say that Tubthumper had, very specifically and in a different blog, offered to help you out with your PRS issue, including using a number of loopholes or whatever to reduce costs, and to do so without any fee. Her initial comment in this blog was to state that she felt that this offer had been lost in the general noise.

When I first joined this community I hated it. All I saw was lots of bickering, most if it started by someone calling themselves the Dalek and one or two other individuals who I haven't seen much, if anything of, on this my second attempt to get into it and I've actually been enjoying contributing where I feel i have something to say. Thing is I may well have thought that last year but I became too focussed on the bad bits and possibly that's where your head is at the mo - especially given that you feel, and I have to agree to an extent, that your input has been misread and blown out of all proportion. Don't give up, I'm glad I didn't!
