Got my annual bruised ribs & elbows from the barrier...live at Academy 2

I'd already been under the weather with the deadly 'man-flu' and by Thursday last week I was a bit worried I'd be too ill to get to the gig...not a feckin' chance! I'd make that gig whatever state I was in...and I did! And boy did I sweat that fever out...

Funny thing was we were drinking with all the new romantics in the Krobar before the gig as Gary Newman was on at Academy 1...so SLF got demoted to Academy 2. I've never seen so many massive hair quiffs in my life!

One of the best SLF gigs I've been to in the 70 odd times I've seen them - SLF are one of those bands that you either love or hate, you either get them or you don't. They have the songs, their songs mean something and by fuck can they put on a good live show.

The crowd was immense...I was in the middle of this lot somewhere getting bashed to bits...haha. And you can hear everyone singing the words like it's a national anthem...makes the hairs on my neck stand up!

We talk about being energetic and in yer face, well this is where we get our inspriration from:

I have to agree with you there, ive done Dublin, Belfast and Manchester on this tour and they have deffo got stronger as the tour has gone on, even if he did have a dodgy throat on Friday

70+ SLF shows? thats some going, ive been on every tour since 1982 and at least two to three shows on every Uk tour since they reformed in 1987 so fuck knows how many i have seen?, but long may it continue!!!

Keith - I'm jealous, I wish I'd have been alive to see them first time around with the original line-up (although in 1982 they had Dolphin on drums by then right?), I think even if I had I'd probably still prefer the current line-up as I'm a massive fan of Steve Grantley, his power and energy are just second to none and by far my biggest drumming influence.

Re: 70 odd times - I bet its not far off to be honest and that's only in the last 15 years since my dad took me to my first SLF gig when I was 13. I suppose I'm what you'd call a 2nd generation fan but hey better late than never, in fact I saw loads of young teenagers at Friday's gig so maybe there's even a 3rd generation now. In my early twenties I used to take time off work each March & October and pretty much tour round with them - at my first Barras gig I was taken under the wing of the 'Roaring Gang', a die hard SLF fan group and close friends of the band that used to meet up before each gig, spend the afternoon in the pub then go watch the gig. It was a very special few years and with the connections back to the band, they'd quite offen meet up with us in the pub for a beer before the gig, eventually they became quite familiar faces and top guys to chat to.

Nowadays, with work commitments and pretending to be in a punk band myself, I just can't get the time off to see them as often as I'd like...plus there's the financial side, it used to cost me a fortune but at that time I had nothing else to spend my wages on.

A lot of people'll prob think this is all boring stuff but I know you guys 'get it'...and as you say long may it continue.

Cheers
Dean

Hi Dean, Yes mate I get it

SLF is like a drug for me, Your probably right about the current line up being the best but I took my inspiration from all the SLF Drummers, and i have pinched bits of all of them, I’m gutted I never got to see Jim play but I met both Jim and Brian in Belfast a few weeks ago in the after show party and they spent a lot of time chatting especially Jim, he is even using one of my photos as his FB profile pic (overwhelmed)

Yes Dolphin was on drums in 82 and if I’m honest I think Dolphin had the most technique out of all of them, but I love all the line ups that SLF have had

I’ve got to say tho, they fucked I Fought The Law up at every gig, they did not do their homework on that one, which is surprising because they normally get the silly encore spot on !

Best regards
Keith

Here's the 'Roaring Gang' in the Solid Rock pub in Glasgow before Barrowlands gig, not seen it for years but you got me thinking I'd love to do it all again:
