I'm outta here (for now at least)

It's been a long time coming. I've had my fair share of disputes with people on here (ALL of which were subsequently resolved). I've met some wonderful people who I am proud to call my friends. I've shared some controversial opinions and advertised a few gigs. This is a great website and Paul does a great job on the whole.

However, there is more to music in the North West than this website and some people would do well to remember that.

Why am I leaving now? Any numbers of reasons to be fair. The things that come to mind are:

- Clones and Trolls. The return of dalekloveZgarlic recently. Not even the original dalek who has some interesting opinons, but a shit clone who cant even construct his own opinions or put his name to them. Utter, utter waste of time. His profile is the type of stuff that should be deleted rather than blogs.

- Trigs blog being moderated on Sat night. Unfair, unnecessary and there are people who post shite and drivel on a daily basis, so God (or Mr NWB) alone knows why he was moderated. The blog title could have simply been amended in my honest opinion if it offended - which I doubt it did.

- Liars, bullshitters, brown nosers, back stabbers and cliques. They're in the minority, but no matter how many times if gets denied....these people exist. I've seen it, I've experienced it. I want nothing more to do with it.

And no, this isn't aimed at Alyerpal (and I only say this because we know he's a sensitive soul!) or the headbanders (who reguarly get accused of being a clique, but invite anyone to their get togethers so can't possibly be). It's my general feeling towards the whole community and I do not mean any disrespect to anyone other than those who purposefully interact for their own benefit with no sense of community at all.

We've all felt like this at some point, just take a breather for a few weeks. I don't think sticking this blog up is gonna help you any if I'm honest. Community-wise I've been hoping for a blossom of new characters here for some time, if only to inject some life back into NWB...things are very thin on the ground here lately.

We resolved it peacefully and I gained a respect for you.

Shame. Must admit that although, as you suggest, you've made a number of "controversial" contributions to blogs in the short time I've been on here they've always been worth a read!

The offer and delivery of free photo shoots has also been one of the things that, for me at least, demonstrate the value of NWB as a "community" rather than simply being a talking/bickering/advertising/selling shop!

hi mate, i sttill like this site for promoting gigs, discussing music and starting some nice music related blogs, all the other drivel arguments,attention seeking and starting trouble for the sake of it that we all see on here, just ignore it dude, works for me ;0) but yes i cant deny it puts me off participating as much as i used to like doing

my other half has put this in context once by saying, why arent u playing guitar instead of reading thru arguments?....

theres always wallys around everywhere, still doesnt take away from the value of the site

Although Lgit puts it perhaps a little more succinctly I am a little disappointed with the Mr NWB comment. There's obviously some history there which I'm completely ignorant of but surely if a contributor was viewed as being such a problem they would have been "dealt with" by now?

Yeah there is a lil history.

Fact is I've moderated about 5 posts in the last 6 months. Considering the amount of blogs/comments posted, That's a tiny amount of moderation. The rule is, a blog/comment is deleted in it's entirety. It's not in my will to edit/change a comment.

The other fact is - i had a large number of complaints about excessive moderation when ST had moderation rights.

Do you always give moderator rights to people you have "history" with? Funny how my moderator rights just "disappeared", not when there were complaints flowing, but several MONTHS later.

How many complaints did you receive about my use of moderator rights (which you told me not to tell anyone I had been given)? I must have used them all of 3 times and each time you were advised and had no complaints. In fact I have PMs where you have thanked me for my help. But then you already know that because you sent them.

Missed this one earlier guys so forgive my late input! Totally agree with some of the posts here about us all feeling disillusioned from time to time. Also totally agree with ST when he says there is a lot more to the NW music scene than NWB itself. There is without any question a small amount of shit stirring goes on from time to time here, just as there is a lot of people who have made friends/buddied up/networked, and a lot of bands who have gained invaluable contacts from this site and it's members. The pros outweigh the cons. But the sense of community it seems has diminished, ironically as the size/membership of NWB is at an all time high. A true community encompasses all, and there's a few occasions I can think of where unnecessary moderation has spoiled a frank and open discussion and where certain members have been shot down for expressing an opinion by the rest of the 'community'. That's why we have to take this site for what it is, not what it was. It's a promotional tool, a network and a resource, but no longer a community.

@Sugar Bs - I think that you would have to be rather niave/silly to use the PM service to send messages which are very personal and private.

I think that I've missed the garlic clone (or is it clove) recently. I personally find that kind of thing entertaining but then again....I don't bite and don't get wound up apart from personal attacks which are false or inaccurate and those are very few and far between.

@SB - I chose to edit my comments firstly because I broke my own rule and posted in anger, reacting badly to Mr NWB choosing this blog to have a cheap swipe at me for no reason. I'm only human and I apologise to anyone I have inadvertantly caused any distress. Secondly, the site belongs to Mr NWB and is his to do with as he pleases. Reading private messages (whilst morally questionable) is not in breach of the terms and conditions of the site so far as I can see.

you have been very quick to jump down my throat on a few blogs, which I fully Respect, we are all entitled to opinons, even though mine are always right!!! lol, (bit of light hearted stuff there).

Now will you 2 kiss and make up, it's obvious your not leaving the site as since this blog was posted you've responded 3 times, so man up the pair of you and get on with it.

Paul love this site, on it most days, had a few gigs from being on this site, not as many as I would like, but some, met some new friends been to a load of gigs watching bands I would have never heard of. keep it up.

@ST - Perhaps not in breach of any t&c, like you say it's his site. You'd have to be pretty sad to sit there reading all your forum members' PMs, but the mere fact you (an ex mod) stated exactly that in your last post (then deleted it) makes it pretty obvious that it's happening. Not that there's anything to hide, just a load of old bitchy junk.

Yes - I do have access to peoples PMs (I created/host the database). On a couple of occassions I have been asked for audit logs of blogs/comments/private messages from the Police. (couple of privacy breach/slander cases)

Sensitive data like passwords are md5 hash encrypted, so I dont have access to your actual password. (if you use the same password, for say your hotmail addy)

As for actively reading peoples PMs for leisure - You gotta be kidding??!?! I have a life - lol!

Oh Mr NWB. I'm disappointed. That sounds almost believable, and I'm sure many will take you at your word. I could let it lie, but I don't appreciate being made out to be a liar. I'm principalled like that. As it happens, I can quote details of users private messages that you have divulged to me, which were read for purposes other than compliance. But I won't. It's not fair on those users.

There's no sense in continuing our disagreement. I was merely saying au revoir. You chose to make this personal for some reason. I don't know why, although I have my suspicions.
