I prefer female voices in general but my top 2 have always been Karen Carpenter and Anne Wilson. In that order.

Good Call! Judie Tzuke has got to be right up with the best of them. Fantastic live and had a great voice for both the rocky and the more mellow numbers. She was always backed by a great band - Paxman the Axeman on guitar if I remember rightly (not Jeremy).

I'm with Bad Horsie Mick in preferring female vocalists so forgive me for going on and on with this one:
Sheryl Crow (simply wonderful). Chrissie Hynde. Imelda May. Beth Orton. KT Tunstall. Adele. Norah Jones. Eva Cassidy. Alison Moyet. Sarah McLachlan. Carrie Underwood. Miranda Lambert. Emmylou Harris. Christina Aguilera (phenomenal voice when the daft diva actually concentrates on singing). Gabriella Cilmi (really needs to do a rock album). Paloma Faith (love this woman - brilliant and unique). Pixie Lott (great voice). Andrea Corr (in more ways than one...). Macy Gray. Kelis. Ella Fitzgerald. Nina Simone. Susan Tedeschi.

Oh, and I just love this woman:

Sandi Saraya, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Karen Carpenter (like warm honey dripped on a swollen kn... ooops! easy tiger!), Annie Lennox, The extremely beautiful lady out of femme fatale (think she is wonderful, can hold a note, voice has got real balls and ..........errrmmm.... looks really durty as well :o)).

Think i may be going off on one so better stop otherwise this might degenerate into a list of women i would love to disappoint.

Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell, Debbie Harry, P.P Arnold (Awesome on "Tin Soldier" by The Small Faces), Etta James....probably some I'm missing but they're all pretty amazing.

And if just one person enjoys this - it will make my day! It's recorded (I think) off Malian TV many years ago and the tape goes wonky in places. This is vintage Oumou Sangare, unfortunately she doesn't really do this traditional style any more.
