Free online interactive drum lessons

Richard Wilson (from RAW studios) in Halifax has started doing online live interactive drum lessons via his website www.rawstudios.net. It's been up and running for 2 weeks now and I highly recommend it.

The first lesson is absolutely free, with no commitment for any further lessons. Subsequent lessons are priced at £3.49 per half hour.

Whilst I appreciate there's loads of you tube videos out there to crib from, I've found Richard's live lessons priceless in that you can suggest what topics you would like to see covered in advance via the facebook page

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_162897500432805&ap=1

and you can submit questions throughout the broadcast which Richard deals with in "real time". Last week's lesson on the use of paradiddles in fills and grooves ran to almost 45 minutes by the time Richard had finished answering the questions submitted. For a teacher who has some considerable reputation in the drum teaching/clinician world (and who would usually cost £30 per hour for a one hour lesson) it represents awesome value for money.

He already has some video lessons on you tube

- there's one on the cissy strut which I've been having a whale of a time with. Funky as owt it is!

Ah Cissy Strut, classic Meters number. We do that in the Jazz mob, awesome number.

I'm ashamed to say I had never come across it before I watched Richard's youtube video. I'm so musically illiterate I ought to be beaten to death with a pair of 5A sticks.

Now of course I will be putting cissy strut inspired fills in everything, however inappropriate, because I'm like a child with a new toy.

You want to check out some more of their stuff. George Porter Jnr. is one of my favourite Bass Players and they are a really funky band.

I shall indeed. I'm all about the funk. I was introduced to Tower of Power about 2 years ago and nearly gave up drumming on the spot. I want to have David Garibaldi's babies...or an ounce of his talent

If we carry on like this, we will find out we have the same "faves" in bands :-)
My MP3 player is packed with Tower of Power stuff and I have a great live concert of theirs on DVD. Absolutely awesome band.
Their Great American Soulbook is a fantastic CD. I don't normally like re-makes of classic soul numbers but their take on some of the best soul/funk numbers is fantastic.
