Do any venues have disabled access and toilets?

....for wheelchair users

I do voluntary work for people with disabilities (wheelchair users) and as I'm "matched" with people with similar interests I have service users who would like to get out to gigs and jam nights.

Does anyone know of any live music venues that are wheelchair friendly, both in terms of access to the venue and having a disabled toilet that will accommodate a wheelchair (one user in particular uses an electric wheelchair so a properly proportioned disabled toilet would be a necessity).

@ Jez - me too - I was racking my brains and none of the venues I've ever gigged at have a disabled loo, though many are generally accessible to wheelchair users

@ The Cricks - brilliant....looks like I'm going to become a regular at your place!

@TubT - in a nutshell - I could think of loads with ramps or on the level but it was the dedicated toilet that was the issue

Same here - and I thought I was quite "disabled aware" (having 2 disabled parents) but am ashamed to say I had never thought about toilet facilities before I started trying to arrange a night out with one of the people I befriend. Quite often disabled people have continence "issues" which makes access to a loo an absolute necessity.

thats a bit unfair to say that because they're disabled - they can't hold their own piss!!

Yeah, proper disabled toilets are quite large. I think some venues couldn't accommodate one even if they wanted too. It's just a fact and it can't really be helped.

@ H2H - not sure if you're joking but whilst its something of a generalisation it's also fact. People with physical disabilities which impact on their activity levels often have higher urine output (on account of lower perspiration) and many medications act as diuretics.

That was very well explained! It may be worth doing a bit of a survey on here, asking bands to take note of venues with disabled toilets. Il look out in future. I think the Oaks in Mobberley did, but couldnt swear on it! But I know they have access.

Thanks again for all the responses. I'm hoping to make my first trip out a week on Sunday with a wheelchair using friend. Nice to know there's a decent choice of venue out there.

@ Jez C - not sure if you mean the Thwaites tasted good 10 mins ago or there was a disabled loo there 10 mins ago.....how much of the Thwaites did you sup for your grammar to go down the toilet (fnar fnar did you see what I did there?!).
