New Songs whats your opinion

Posted By : Idle Promise | Comments : 12

These have been chosen but have caused more than the usual heated discussions

Id just like to have any opinions on what weve chosen to get an 'outsiders' viewpoint. For those of you who are not familiar we do a range of songs from AC/DC to Beatles Oasis Fratellis etc

1. I am the Resurrection - Stone Roses

2 Step On - Happy Mondays

3 Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics

4 Friday Im in Love - The Cure

5 Bring it On - Beady Eye

6 Back for Good - Take That

Any comments would be appreciated

Hi Nigel,It is a good list of songs. However before i go on this is only my personal opinion bud.

1. I am the resurrection - great tune, seen other bands do it.A sure fire winner.
2. Step on - Again a classic. If you can have the keyboard part all the way through and get a good groove goin with it i rekon this would be a winner too.:-)
3.Sweet Dreams - Yet again a classic.Idle promise? I dunno bout that. But sometimes its those songs that go down well.worth a try.Again though its a very Synth based tune.
4.Friday im in love - Great band "the cure". Very melodic but not sure how popular it would be in the pubs. They are a top alternative band, not sure if it would suit your average mainstream punters.
5.Bring it on - Beady Eye. Although its Liam Gallagher i aint heard it and doubt it would be popular enough. But any tune played well will stand a chance.
6.Back for Good.- Sure fire winner whether played on keys or guitars.Gets the women going and the men lol.Top tune works everytime we play it.Although now we usually only play it on request. :-)
Again Nigel, this is just an opinion. You can try any song in the world but if it doesnt work after three runs out then bin it and move on.Over the last year in SKP weve tried and binned plenty of tunes believe me.It is annoying but we have to keep the punters happy aswell as ourselves i suppose.Look forward to seeing you sunday afternoon buddy.
Scott (SKP).

I didnt know you did Back for Good Scott is that where Anthony got the idea from. ? Funnily enough the one you are unsure about Sweet Dreams is probably the one that we are more united on. We will do a guitar version of it halfway between the eurythmics version and the Marilyn Manson version but a bit more up tempo then his version. Just shows its only by trying them out can you get an true idea and that varies so much from venue to venue. See you Sunday

Ha Nigel, cant remember if Anthony has seen us do the Take that tune.:-)
Your right about different venues. Its a juggling act with setlists these days.We can only try our best
and put 100 percent effort in to all we play.C U sunday. :-)

It's horses for courses. Having seen your band 3 times, I think the songs (apart from one) chosen will sit in well in your sets.

I think you would be letting the side down by covering "Take That" songs, imo.

"Sweet Dreams" is a belter btw. We used to do "Thorn In My Side" and will probably bring it back at some point,

We are trying out a few new numbers tonight, mainly West Life and Boy Zone, pmsl,

Good luck,

Rick.

I've always thought, and have posted the same before on some previous blog, that Patience by Take That would work really well as a (de)(re)constructed rock song .......... never tried it tho but, so that may be a pile of shite!

My first choice of song when we set up IP was Patience as I thought the same that you could make it into a real rock song. We never tried it though which is a pity
