If you are going to see someBigFish at the Old Bank tonight

you are in for a treat! Wangies last night......

This is Willows latest outing of the BigFish, the 'some' being himself and John on drums, and the others being Chris (Mr Blake 'Casey Jones') on lead guitar and slide and Paul on rhythm guitar and banjo and another thing I couldn't identify, but it had strings (I think the name's are right, but I did consume more than 2 pints of Hydes IPA, so apologies if I've got it wrong!).

As promised, it was a 'countrified' set, quite different from the more folky/celtic styles I have heard from the Fish before and for the first time Willow was on bass (!), but very good, nonetheless.

The boys played a wide variety, from The Eagles to Band of Heathens to The Steve Miller Band to The Band, all performed with gusto and with excellent 3 part harmonies.

The mix as always was bang on (even though they got some idiot in the crowd to sound check them) and the volume was kept to a level that didn't cause our faces to melt.

I freely admit that I am baised when it comes to Willow's bands, but they were very, very good, and considering this was their first public performance, can only get better (still don't think 'The Joker' sits well in the set though W)

A good turn out of country fancy dress (Tex just wore his normal clothes!) and another good showing for NWB (and Rock Radio - Dewsbury was knocking about).

There was also a classic moment when Graham (Johnny Meerkat) turned up, saw me and Tex without hats on, threw his own to the floor and jumped all over it.

All in all a great night out - good music, good beer and good company, and rounded off with a burger and chips!

I've got some pics and a bit of video I'll post when I can be arsed and have sobered up a bit, and thanks to Greg TLD for driving once again.

Willow - I salute you!

Love to all

What a belting night! Never been to Wangies before but felt right at home in an instant. The girls behind the bar were fantastic and it was good to meet up with all you NWB folk.

Great set of country rock from Willow and pals. Loved 'Wagon Wheel' and thought it must have been by The Band - obviously not! For a first gig with this line up I don't think it could have been better ( can't wait to see the lads again a few gigs down the line).

Just working on those videos Willow , you should start getting them soon!

I really enjoyed it too, an it was great to meet some more NWBers for real. The band sound was really laid back and easy, which suited the set nicely. As a 'normal' gig it would have been pretty damn good, but as a first outing it was great. 'First time' bassist Willow was packing Fender and Markbass gear, which sounded lovely too.

Cheers to Willow and the other BigFish and all at Wangies for a top night and warm welcome.

Excellent Willow, thoroughly enjoyed your 1st set (heavy weekend beckons so left before the second)

Country isn't my genre of choice but I can appreciate a good band and for a first outing, this my friend is a very good band. I look forward to seeing you again but for the full gig & minus the car keys!!

Skips

PS thanks for the beer AL, Tex is wrong about you and your wallet pmsl
