@luke

as for seeing bands. with me its down to location - friday night is "night out" and I go to the same pubs in my local town and see whoever is on. I like a pint on my night out so will not travel multiple journeys on public transport.

I see you're based in wigan, there does seem quite a lot of peolpe on here from wigan so I'm surprised no one has been to see you; maybe they have bit just havent said hello.:0)

I thought Catdog were Kendal based. Definitely on my list of 'to see' bands, especially after the rave reviews.

Sorry for intruding in this blog but Luke's comments are interesting & raise a good question.

Luke, I think a band has to offer something unique & different in their live show that makes people talk and spread the word, something that people come away from a gig with & think 'yeah that was fookin great, I was entertained'. There's so many bands doing the same old thing and some don't even look like they're enjoying it. I hate to admit it but I also think the physical show (what people see in front of them) plays a large part in a band's popularity, there's tonnes of Indie/Pop cover bands out there but IMO none deliver those songs like Johnny Meerkat do. I enjoy the songs but I also enjoy 'the show'. Catdog are obviously doing that with their recent reviews.

I know for a fact half of what attracts people to The Sugar Bullets, Last Gang in Town and similar bands is our respective 'shows'; the way we look, the energy, the in yer face attitude, the swagger and the banter with the audience. Granted Punk isn't everyone's cup of tea but you can be sure of a decent entertaining show when you see us.

How you say? Consistency! Play each gig like it's your last. Play as many different venues as you can and over time you'll find pockets of people come back to see you at certain venues ie, building your following. Market yourselves on every level possible, you gotta be a bit pro-active & cheeky in this world to be seen otherwise you'll just get left behind - the most important thing for us right now is our Facebook page, a perfect way to keep close to your fans and build up your fan base. There's nothing better than putting a 'status update' right under the noses of people...it's the most targeted way to promote yourself.

Anyway I could waffle all day about marketing, which reminds me I must get back to my day job...

Good luck & always happy to discuss any pointers.

Going to have to pass comment on this,@ Luke dose it have to be NWBs who come to see you ? or as Dean points out are we not there to entertain the public? Why do people rave about CATDOG ? Went to see them last week for the second time, unable to stay till the end but her are the facts, the vocals are spot on, the music is spot on and the sound is spot on, and I do mean SPOT ON ! A lot of effort is put into the show and you can tell, and the band are having a genuine good time. Only spoke to Chris briefly the first time I saw them and I have to say for a man with a lot of tallent he is a very polite and humble man, but on stage he has a fantastic presents that gets the crowd going. I personally agree with Dean on this, the main thing is to give the punters something to remember you by and they will come again and CATDOG do this by the bucket load !!!!!!!!!

(Well thats this blog completely screwed up, sorry)

Hi Luke,

Regarding NWB and getting people to come and see us, I have to say it`s largely down to the efforts of Trig and the guys from Dakota. They came to see us in Cumbria after we were recommended to them, then introduced us to NWB and posted a rave review about this little known band from Cumbria called Catdog.
On the strength of that we got gigs at a couple of venues further affield and NWB`ers started to come along and spread the word. We had of course been around for bloody ages, but only played locally really.
So ...if it weren`t for Trig, nobody would know .
Blame him.
haha

Best of luck mate and keep plodding on.
Oh ,and for what it`s worth, next year will be the 30th anniversary of my first gig. Hardly a newcomer eh ?

Thanks to all who have left positive feedback - sincerely.
Chris

Luke, sorry of my post sounded a bit condescending, it wasn't aimed at you or anyone else, just a generalisation...I can't give advice on what will work for other bands, just what works for us in the hope it helps others.

I admit it's a compliment when someone from NWB turns up at your gig, I think I'm right in saying that most people from here that've seen us aren't particularly into Punk in a big way, but more LIVE music. I've never specifically 'asked' people on NWB to come to our gigs, more a natural progression of making some good pals over a 3 year period that support us every now & again, and I think that goes for most of the bands here. It's not about 'you scratch my back I'll scratch yours', it's about enjoying a common interest in watching live bands. But I do believe those who shout loudest get more attention, and if that's wrong then so are the most successful bands in the world (and businesses).

I wouldn't spend too much time trying to get fellow NWBers to come to your gigs, it'll happen. I think bands have to find their own audience outside of this site because most people here are doing exactly the same as everyone else come Fri/Sat night. We've built up nearly 500 'fans' on Facebook and I have no idea who 90% of them are, but I know for sure they are 'relevant' fans who like Punk. Considering most of my mates outside NWB land aren't into Punk I could probably count on one hand those who are a fan of our page.

And I have to nip out now so catcha laters...
