why should it be a joke? Mr NWB has put a lotof effort into this site and is right to seek a financial reward for all the work put in.

Good luck to you mate! I personaly think you should charge a fee to use the site anyway....oh my god here we go Wofpack has caused another NWB riot ;-)

Charging a fee to use to site will kill it, as a matter of principle a lot of people wouldn't pay to sign up. By putting a lot of venues, and bands off, it would make the site poorer for all involved. Good luck to Mr. NWB selling the site though! How much are you looking for?

sorry wolfpack, put my foot in it on last comment, my appologees mr NWB. its not a joke. maybe bands, venues and fan dont realize the effort involved in supervising all this,
and i for one am probably guilty of this too,if it comes down to a subsciption fee, per month, per year, or whatever Sabre would still be here. or have i put my other foot in my mouth when the other came out.

I think 90% of us would pay as it is such a valuable resource now for bands and venues alike

You know what some of you bands should do (I'd chip in but my band is in bits, but I'm available on bass) have an evening where NWB gets the gig money, a few bands could meet up and we can all say hello.

I've spoken to NWB and he has some cracking ideas but there are costs to development...come on guys an evening with 2 or 3 or even 4 bands would be great.

Who's up for it and can organise it. All we need is 1 venue to say AYE and a however many bands...

sabre - dont let wolfpack bully you! their howl is far worse than their bite lol! :)

seriously though, this is a super site, and woodys nwb fundraiser is a top idea. if bands value this site they should jump on this, cos im sure a lot of fans like myself will!

The ole "charging a fee" debate. I've never charged any band/venue to use NWB, and have had any intention to.

I asked members to click on the affiliate links to generate a bit of income, and so far, the amount is at the handsome sum of NADDA. :-(

I am in the process of building a new site, but in two minds to whether release it upon the members as it'll involve quite a bit more extra admin.

personally speaking i dont really wanna start paying to use this site as we use myspace, facebook etc and they dont charge. however im sure the owners of said companys probably put a LOT less effort into the actually running of the site than mr nwb does. if it came to a subscription fee we would pay it as i genuinely think this is the best resource for local bands i have ever seen and mr nwb shouldbe proud of himself for creating such a tool!
i hope mr nwb doesnt sell up as if it went to somebody else im sure the focus of the site would be lost and the original, brilliant idea would be diluted.
we get 90% of our gigs through this site and for that we will always be eternally gr8ful. i hope this comment doesnt get misconstrued as i do mean it in a constructive way. oh and if theres any fundraising gig for nwb please count us in

Ya know I've had a think (and a bollocking from a mate), I've had to delete my earlier post because I don't think I'd properly thought through just how much this site has helped us since we started on the circuit a year ago, and we owe a lot more to Mr. NWB than I initially gave him credit for.

I would have to say NWB pretty much set The Sugar Bullets up in terms of putting us in touch with venues, with a lot of gigs in 2008 coming directly from contacts on this site. We've also had the pleasure of meeting loads of other bands who made us feel welcome and of course the networking with venues is second to none. So I take back my negative comments about not paying a fee because we hope to continue our friendship here and would gladly donate something to keep the site running.

Yours faithfully,
Deano (loopy drummer from the Sugar Bullets)

Guys, Mr. NWB Doesn't want to charge! So end of that.

He has been developing the site for a while but the admin is a headache. So why don't we do what we do best. PLAY! put on a gig and pass the cyber hat round. WHat better resource then a musicians site putting on a gig with the bands and venues thet use his free service.

I know he won't ask but I will...

I'm organising it now.

First off VENUE and date, one of you venues pick a night and lets take it from there.

yep get a paypal thing going.Bands don't exactly get paid a fortune as you know, but I'm sure most bands on here would make a donation even if its just a small one. Then its up to the bands then to make a donation or risk losing a valuable gig getting tool.

Paypal to info@northwestbands.co.uk if you want to donate into the NWB hat. All proceeds will go to enhancing the site. I need to arrange some backup space if im going to allow people to upload mp3s again. And arranging that aint free unfortunately :-(

As for the NWB night, hell yeah! - Lets bring back the NWB showcases! They were awesome... and I bet most of the current NWB members didnt realise I held bimonthly nights.

A free NWB pleccy for any NWBer who makes it down to the showcase night.

Right... do we have a venue! lets do this!

Just think of all the money both bands and venues are making from this site!
I reckon there should be a kind of two tier system(I've seen it on another site)...keep this much as it is, however introduce a kind of 'gold' membership with extra facilities such as mp3 and video hosting, direct emailing of gigs, probably some web hosting space(where bands can put a bit more than now available) etc etc. Charge what? £20 a year? Thats less than 40p a week.
Anybody who doesn't want to pay, then this is still here...but if you wanna contribute you get a few 'extras'

I think the two tier idea is excellent Night Train. That gives people some choice.

I would pay for a gold membership, so long as the basic site is free. Might sound hypocritical (based on my earlier comment) but its not. I have no qualms whatsoever paying to use such a fantastic resource (especially if we will get better features) I just think that many venues wouldn't pay it, especially in the current climate (I know dedicated music venues would, but I'm just thinking local pubs that put bands on) and it might put off new, upcoming bands.

Plus, I think contacting venues should be free on the basic version - I, and other musos I know, have signed up to websites just find they can't contact anybody with a free membership. What's the bloody point? You just feel cheated. Sonicbids, increasingly popular, not only charges a monthly fee but also charges your card for every time you contact a venue!

The addition of MP3s, the ability to upload a promo pack and some photos in the "gold" section might be tempting, along with an advertising campaign to get more venues on board (I'm sure us bands would gladly take leaflets out with us to any non-NWB venues we play at and drop them off at the local boozer).

On a side note, talking of improvements, it'd be great to be able to see your "sent messages". Don't seem to be able to do that on here (unless I'm missing something). This is important because in our band more than one of us logs into here - if we don't know what the other's said, we could be duplicating etc blah blah).

Disappointing...

not one venue would be up for it, and not one offer from a band (scared to be lined up with other bands then?)...I can see why NWB gave up.

Could have been good. Sod ya all you miserable buggers

Dear Woody,
Just read this thread...We would do it if it ever happens wherever you like, I don't think any ones scared of being lined up with other bands but it's hard to commit to something thats so vague with not even a venue involved, some bands could commit then find they were appearing 40 miles away and with a round trip of 80 miles could be seriously out of pocket regardless of thier good intentions, Myself I'm filthy fucking rich and wouldn't miss it but not everyone is. If there was a definate date and destination then you would be I'm sure inundated with offers to play, but until then you've got us...

How about the bent brooke jam night near the Trafford centre? kinda central to people in Manchester/Bolton area. Good motorway connections.

Would be a good monday nighter, with a few fellow NWB'ers
